Hello, Here is the deal. I own an Australian business ABN (IT House) but it turns out that when I went to by the domain ithouse.com.au it was already taken by someone. Isn't it illegal for that person to own that domain since the ABN of (IT House) is under my name? I need some advice on this from someone that knows the laws of .au domains. Hope to hear from someone soon, Thanks
Well according to ithouse.com, they have been business since 1996. It can't be confirmed because their whois data doesn't show when the domain was registered. when did you register the name?
I'm not a lawyer, but a lot probably depends if you have legally registered your company. If your business is a legal entity and they purchased the domain name after you registered your company - you might have a valid claim. If the domain name is important to you ask a lawyer...unfortunately these things can sometimes get "messy" and expensive.
Thanks for the reply's, I just wanted to make it clear that it is a .com.au domain not a .com domain which is a big difference. For a person to get a .com.au domain you have to have an Australian ABN business name which should be exactly or pretty darn close to whichever domain name you buy. The problem is that the person claimed that he owned the ABN name (IT House) when he bought the domain but in reality I own that ABN name not him. Thanks
