    Hey guys and girls,

I was wondering if I was allowed to use the word "Digg" in my domain name? (as the site www.digg.com)

    Example: (Not my domain) www.LLLLdigg.com

And the site will use a clone like digg.com

    Is that allowed?

    Thanks, appreciate it!

You could get in trouble for that. Must likely not though. If the site gets big, you will get in trouble of course. If you want to build that site for the future, find anther name. It would be sad to get big and them have to change name.

Yes, it will be simular to Digg, but will be a micro niche.

What other word can I use that is not "Digg" that webmasters will automatically know what it means?

    Thanks, appreciate it!

mmm if you are going to do something like digg, yes! You could have problems with Digg, why? Maybe right now you are thinking in small, but you know how is Internet, maybe you have a successful site in a couple of months / years, and here is when you could have problems with dig (trademark), the best way is to create a new name.

    Is my personal opinion,

I am going to take your advice, thanks!

Curious, what do you think are some good names besides "Digg" that I can use? It will be a niche market name in the domain name with the "Digg" word.

What do you think? Something people will knows its a digg type site.

Digg Dig or any other variation with a similar concept is a direct infringement on the copyright and against the law.

Digg by itself means nothing. You only know what it is due to branding. If you wanted to start a site and use a "web 2.0" name like digg, you'll have to do a ton of marketing to get the brand recognition you are looking for.

Very much true - I guess it does not matter one bit, as long as I get the name out. I checked, and no one has started one with this nichemarket, so ill just make a goofy word up.

Maybe like "Slap" or "Spit" lol

EDIT: Just emailed Digg.com - They already emailed me back as said just what drig said. Just if anyone was interested.

I hope you're not thinking slap.com or spit.com or anything like that because you'd have a shell out mid $XX,XXX to low $XXX,XXX for it.
