Help! Ad block on the top of my site earning less than a lower down one.

    Hi,

I would like to know how Google ranks the cpc ads in each ad block. I know they would rank the ads by putting the more costly ones near the top. But how do they do it with the ad blocks.

I ask this because I have an ad block at the side of my site that is lower down than one that is in the top middle of my site.

I am earning more form the on that is lower down at the side than the one that is in the middle and near the top.

I am just wondering if they can actually tell where an ad block is on a page or if they actually go by the source code of the page.

In my source code the adsense code for the ad on the side of my site actually comes first followed by another adsense code block further down followed by the one in the middle of my page, but at the top.

By having it in my html source code like this does it mean that the adsense ads for the top listing will have lower cpc ads than the ones at the side as they are higher up in my source code.

I hope you can understand what I am trying to say.

    Thanks!

They deliver the ads from top to bottom. If you have a 3-column site, your left sidebar gets the ad first, then your middle, then your right sidebar. Move your left sidebar ad to your right and that'll guarantee your middle gets the highest paying ads first.

Is there a way that I could do it without having to move the ads from the left as I have always had them at the left and moving them to the right would mean that I would have to re-design the whole of my site.

It would be nice if Adsense would allow you to manually tell it which ad you want the highest paying ads in followed by the next, etc.

I guess I will have to look into doing it so that I can still have the ads on the left and also still include that middle ad.

So as longs as the middle ad is the first in my html page code then this will have the highest paying ads in it or will moving it to the top of the html page code do nothing?

Whatever it reads first, it delivers to first. Simple as that.

And yes, it would be nice if Adsense lets you select which ads come first, but then again, it would be nice if Adsense lets you do a lot of other things, but I digress.

So what ever it reads first in the html source code. That what I had thought, but I just wanted to clear it up first.
