I have been using forums for some time. Most of the time, if you get in trouble for anything, it is for not searching thorough and posting in a thread relevant to your question. I have thought this to be proper. I am unfamiliar what it means to hijack someone's thread. How do I know when searching if the original author means for it to be all about their initial personal topic and not one I can ask questions on. If that is the case, the why search? I always want to do right by the forum so please someone explain. Thanks
if someone it`s trying to sell a hosting package for example and if you come and say you can sell it cheaper. That`s called thread hijacking
I think "hijacking" is when you "take over" the thread in a way that disregards what has gone on in the thread already. Or takes it over in a way that is off topic. Sometimes i don't like to dig up old threads. If the situation has changed with regard to a topic then post a new thread. Mods?
That maybe. But you didn't look at what time my post was posted. My post wasn't a response to yours, we were just posting parallel! Anyway nothing concrete unless it's written in stone (which it probably is somewhere) Notting
Wow, somehow has an attitude problem. You gave a very basic explanation of one form of thread hijacking. This is a forum where topics are discussed, not a "one answer, thread closed". Searching for threads is a great way help yourself, but if a topic is months or years old it usually does not warrant posting a reply. Most of the time these old thread have long been abandoned by the owner or the information may have become irrelevant.
