Just wanted to say hi to all. Boss referred me to this site like a year or so back -- he's really into the whole SEO internet marketing thing. (Personally I think a lot of it's bunk but there's still some good stuff to be learned from it.) Recently started lurking on the forums with some regularity after I got involved with Google Adsense a couple months ago. A lot of what I've seen is pretty interesting and helpful. I've been on the internet for about 10 years now. I made a fansite, one of the earliest of its kind, also now about 10 years old. Also intimately involved in the early days of one of the few large topic/portal sites of that genre that didn't turn into a dot bomb -- currently it's THE largest site of its kind on the net. I'm a web programmer by trade. Freelanced through the late 90's while I was in college until the market bombed in 2001 (incidentally the same year I graduated) and basically just got burned out on the stuff and worked in IT instead for the past few years. I've recently gotten the bug to try making cool stuff again, so I guess we'll see how it goes.
hey! There's an Adsense forum here, and there are lots of tips posted by the members, give it a read. welcome to the forums!

Welcome to DP!! With your boss recommending you this forum, you can now have excuse to forum all day long...
Hi all, Thanks for the warm welcome. Sarah: Google "comic book". I did a whole bunch of backend programming for an earlier incarnation of the message boards, as well as the free webmail service and a monthly contest thing. Was also one of the original crew of message board moderators there, from sometime back in 1996. Bailed on the message board moderation once I realized that the guy was turning the operation into a profit-oriented endeavor and making money off of our volunteer work. I was paid for the programming but it eventually stopped being personally rewarding, and I haven't really had much to do with those guys since about 3-4 years ago. Since I'm mainly just a code-for-hire person, there isn't too much interesting web stuff out there with my name on it. Only thing is this: http://xman.comicbooks.net. This was actually originally one of the first web pages I stumbled across when I first got on the internet. For some reason I thought it was the coolest thing in the world and couldn't stand to see it neglected, so when the original webmaster decided to move on, I found it a new home, remodeled it... and pretty much left it untouched since then.
Welcome. "message board moderation once I realized that the guy was turning the operation into a profit-oriented endeavor" You too? I also saw it happen and was spending mucho hours moderating and coding for (un-named) board software. But, I did learn alot of PHP / MySQL. In my advancing years, looking back, it's interesting how one thing leads to another.
Yeah... The technical experience I got was invaluable -- hardcore web programming isn't something that really be learned in any kind of classroom. In hindsight, my regrets aren't so much about having spent the time learning this stuff as they are about not applying the skills I learned and the time I spent towards something for my own personal benefit. So from here on in it's all about me.
