    Hello, Digital Point forums.

I'm athenian200, and I've been a user of the Internet for several years. I'm something of a computer geek, and have developed a lot of general skills related to computing, though up to now I have not specialized in anything. I can use Office, am an average typist, know a little HTML, have dabbled in Hex editing, have created the occasional blog, done some gaming, and tried to create simple programs in C.

Ever since I graduated from High School in 2007, I've struggled to find a job. College scared me away due to the math requirement, because I barely passed Algebra 2 in High School. I applied for a few service jobs, such as placement at Wendy's, Walgreens, or Wal-mart, but had no luck.

The only option left to me was working for my father, which has turned out to consist of little more than sitting in an office and occasionally restocking sodas. He's now encouraging me to stop looking for things to do around the office, and start using the spare time to develop a skill set that would be useful to me. Because I've been interested in computers since age 7, it came to mind that I should try to do something associated with computers, what with my having a good knowledge base and interest in that area. Specifically, what has come to mind now, is that I would like to try to become a Web Designer.

I was told about your site a year ago, when I was considering looking for work associated with computers, by a friend who suggested I should pursue a career in Web Design, but I ended up being pushed towards Network Administration and maintenance instead of Web Design. I tried looking into that, and while I understood it, I found it very tedious, impersonal, and repetitive work... even more so than service or office work, because it was also complicated and required thought/effort. I took the classes, but at the end of them just didn't feel like I could do that for a living.

Now that this has come to mind again, I'm really beginning to think that my other friend knew me better, and that their advice would have been a better choice to follow. So, I've come here, hoping that I can learn a thing or two about Web Design, and later on possibly get advice about how to market those skills via the Internet.

Right now, I know a little bit of HTML 4 and CSS, but nothing spectacular. I'm also aware of XHTML, Javascript, Flash, Java, HTML 5, and other web technologies due to having used them on Web Sites, though I'm not that familiar with how to create content using those technologies. I'm trying to figure out what programs and web technologies I should familiarize myself with, in order to get started learning about Web Design.

This looks like an interesting forum. So, am I in the right place?
