I'm from Jersey. I've been lurking around here on and off for several months, but now I decided to register and look forward to participating in future discussions. Ok, now that I'm done introducing myself, I have a question regarding search engine marketing. Actually, I'm looking to buy a book that will help me better understanding how SEO/SEM works so that I can use that knowledge to offer SEO services to my clients. Right now I'm looking at SitePoint's new "Search Engine Marketing Book." I'm not sure if anyone has the book yet, but I'm a little concerned that it may cover almost everything I've read so far at DigitalPoint and other forums where such information is free. What I like about SP's book is that they include forms and documents that will help me with my small SEO business. Any thoughts on the book? In addition, I have searched and found some interesting SEO/SEM books at Amazon. However, there are so many of them and so far I haven't found any that include such forms and documents that I need. Any recommendations? Thanks for reading.
...And a hearty wellcome from Copenhagen, Denmark. No recommondations, sry. Just read dp from start to end
Welcome! No recommendations either. Never picked up a book apart from 'Search Engine Visibility' by ? which has some good but very general pointers in there and most of it is outdated (heavily focussed on META stuff for instance). Thing with books is that by the time they are printed and distributed and land on your desk, they are outdated. There's no 6 months where the algo don't change one way or the other. The stuff that remains the same is the stuff that's vey logical. Like having good content and well structured navigation. With that in mind I'd use the free forums as oppose to books. With 40% reading, 10% asking good questions and the other 50% spent on gaining hands-on experience you will be up there in no time. A good redource is all the wite papers and patents relevant to the industry. Nohaber's list http://www.seoguide.org/se-patents-papers.htm is a good one to start with. Not all of the patented technology is implemented but knowing they exist will make your efforts future proof at least. Rock On!
I would recommend reading articles and newsletters. Good SEO isn't published in books because they tend to be out of date by the time they hit the streets (or soon after).
