Since it looks like I'll be staying a while (this place is awesome), I might as well introduce myself.

My name is Jason, but the online world knows me as Xangis. I live in Ohio, I just turned 30, and I'm a techie. I was a pc tech for a couple years, moved up to network engineer for a few more years, changed to software development for a few years, and finally ended up getting fed up with working for idiot managers and backward companies, so I started building things in my spare time. Things like a print magazine of science fiction and fantasy stories, a collection of synthesizers and a large audio sample library, audio software (drum machines, a theremin, and various utilities), a massive fiction book collection...

Over the past few months I've been transferring these interests to the web, building sites, buying any domain name that pops into my head, and learning more about web technologies (there are two types of programmers - application programmers and web programmers, and my background is in application programming). I haven't really generated anything super-phenomenal, but I have around a dozen active sites that generate around 300 hits a day total.

This week I left my job programming simulator software for a government contractor because I couldn't deal with it anymore (working for the gov't totally sucks, I don't recommend it). I've decided to pursue these things I've been creating full-time (actually more than full-time, since I've been spending 12-14 hours a day on them). My expenses are low, I don't have kids, and I have plenty of savings, so I have plenty of time to turn what I can't stop myself from doing into something that I can continue doing without eventually starving to death.

So far this place has tons of great information that I'm absorbing like a sponge, and I hope to find plenty of information on improving my sites and getting the word out.

For those of you who've managed to read this far, these are the domains and projects that I'm working on:

allpossibleworlds.net - My magazine of science fiction and fantasy short stories.
vortextemporum.com - My magazine of historical fiction, alternate timeline, and "steampunk" stories.
bloodlessmushroom.com - My experimental electronic music solo project, not updated in a while, but I've been writing new music, hopefully will update soonish.
fictionclassics.com - Yet another public domain literature site. The world doesn't need another one, but it gives me something to do (post) while I read them.
soundprogramming.net - A library of synthesizer, drum machine, and sampler manuals and various other sound and sound programming related information. There's so much I can add to this site that it'll keep me busy for years.
zetacentauri.com - The main site for the company I started. This is where I've posted the applications I've written. There are 10 freeware apps and 3 shareware apps posted.
indiebandchallenge.com - A site where indie bands can submit songs to be voted on by users for cash prizes every month.
indiefilmchallenge.com - A site where indie filmmakers can submit videos to be voted on by users for cash prizes every month.
indiewriterchallenge.com - Same as the last two, but for fiction writers.
survivingwithoutajob.com - The blog where I chronicle my quest to build this massive collection.
leftistblogs.com - An aggregator for left-leaning blogs. Kinda funny that I created this site since I'm a Libertarian (but that domain was taken. :p)

I actually own a little over 30 domains right now, in various stages of planning and construction, but the ones I mentioned are the ones I'm putting my effort into. Others to come later include a stock trading game (I'm still programming that one), a fansite for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, an audio software site or two, and a free audio sample download site, a surrealist poetry site, a fansite for my mom (she's a quilter and does absolutely AMAZING work, but she's too shy to brag about it), and a stamp collecting site.

I might be moderately insane, but I absolutely LOVE working on this stuff and it causes me no stress at all to spend 60 or even 80 hours a week building.

So, hello to everyone that's still reading *cricket* *cricket* Nobody? Oh well, it's still nice to be here.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. :)

crownrahul - I just finished listening to an audio book on leadership by John Maxwell, and it was quite good, so I'll definitely check out his book on thinking big.

    Welcome to the forum!

The surrealist poetry site sounds really neat -- I'd love to see it when it's up :)
