Hi, guys, i've got an idea about setting up a movie site.
Do i need some legally lisences to apply?

I actually would like to do like that. People visit my site, and they really can watch movie for free. I am a chinese, i can find movie for free. They need a kind of software for that, and i can find newest movie for free. So is it ilegal or what?
All my movie is from Internet sharing, so i need your help to let me know that.

If you don't own the rights to distribute these movies which has been given by the copyright owners (e.g: Disney, Sony Pictures, Dream Works etc...) then no this would be against the law and you'll find companies such as the MPAA chasing after you.

@stereonation71 I don't really use DailyMotion so I'm not sure as to how the site works, however I'm presuming that users have uploaded these videos themselves. In this case Youtube would be contacted by the various owners asking them to remove the content.

I saw that site, they have few movies, and these movies are very old. Probably they say that their movie is from visitor sharing and uploading, so can i say that?
And by the way does anyone know any opensource movie site script?

you could try and get a contract with some provider that has the ability to authorize such distribution im sure there are some it would have to the same way a channel such as hbo or showtime or stars gets such rights to play movies on directtv or cabletv premium channels

you need some sort of rights or you will wind up with a dmca for sure

They hide behind DMCA and claims that it is user-uploaded content. As long as you comply with DMCA you can do it, but it is still risky since companies are pushing harder and harder to protect their property.

You've got to own the rights to the movie or it's illegal.

Are you thinking of doing a site similiar to Hulu.com? That's legal, but I don't know how to do it...
