Hello from a lost noob

Howdy!

I've been lurking here on and off for a little while and decided to join. Like most/all of you I'm interested in earning $ on the web. I don't even have a website (except for one on geocities I made in high school, but that doesn't count), and I think any forays into making a buck will be slow in coming due to my noob status in that area. Right now I'm at the daydreamer who's inching into the actually putting out an effort stage.

This forum has lots of good info, but frankly I'm overwhelmed! I have a few questions, but don't want to be annoying by asking stuff that's been answered a billion times, but at the same time don't have time to read 1000's of pages to find out if they've been addressed. And I'm no good at thinking up search terms. I'm a lost noob.

In the services section, is that just for specific offers, or can you discuss it generally? I have a question about finding a company that actually has a hiring process, like Google did when they hired the Google answers people (you had to submit samples of your work, explain why you wanted to join, etc.). All of the sites I find take anyone but ask you to pay to join. I'd rather have someone hire me and get paid.

Let's see, stuff about me... I end up telling people about myself as I post, but I never know what to say in an introduction! Hmmm... I like taking pictures and would like to make money off of that someday, I like using the internet, I've dabbled in programming... a little C++, a little Java, some Basic on the PlusFour (an old timey computer- I think it had 64 KB of RAM!). Fun stuff.

about the service forum, i think it is only for offering services and looking for services. Not for questions, but i am not sure

 

Have you considered iStockPhoto -- if you're any good I'm sure you can sell a few pictures. Always fancied trying my hand at taking some digital images and selling them there but never had the time (& probably photographic talent)!

Might give them a look-see. Gotta fix my digital camera first before I'll be able to crank out the pics, though. I've got a lot of film pics, but don't have a scanner and it's easier to just take more with the digital than to scan film one at a time. I just got 3 2GB cards, so should be fun.
