Heavy traffic generally required to join affiliate programs?

I know every program is different, but do a large portion of good affiliate programs require heavy traffic before letting you join?

I have a fairly new website up and am interested in trying to monetize it with CPA ads, but I'm wondering if I should wait until traffic picks up to start applying.

No they don't. And how would they even verify that anyway? They don't go checking everyone's Alexa.

You do not even need any web site for most of the affiliate programs and affiliate networks.
Also, even if you have, they do not bother your traffic.
some affiliate programs may require you to have the same type of content as the programs you are promoting.

Yeah, You should wait a bit, becoz when u get declined, some affiliate networks ask you to wait 6 months to re-apply.

A pyramid may be built very slowly, and then its the most stable structure.!!

Traffic really isn't a requirement for most affiliate programs. You just have to have the niche targeted site that will drive alot of your traffic to whatever you are offering.

Only a few do. I've mostly found that they'll be more than happy to let you join. Some even let you join without having a website, since you can just market the affiliate program through PPC.

Vast majority don't approve depending on traffic. You can register with all affiliate services with zero traffic. Then apply to indivisual advertisers within service. Most automatically approve, some approve depending on review of your site.

I believe that most affiliate programs don't need you to have a minimum amount of traffic or even a site with some of them, but there are some that requires you to have a minimum amout of traffic. These mainly are the cpm networks and some of the cpa networks. But the best thing for you to do, if you are so worried about the traffic issue, then why don't you go to each site and see if you need a minimum amount of traffic before you can apply. If you do, then it would say it on the website itself, either somewhere on the sites pages or in it's TOS.

Some merchants may want to look at your traffic before they allow you to sign up with tem. These are mainly lead programs where they believe you need many visitors to give them what they need. But mostly, you can start off with few visitors. How much you get depends on the payout.
