I don't believe this either. I've never heard of Plentyoffish.com.

If you've never heard of it, it must not exist!

Shoemoney put this lie to bed. It was obvious from the start it was a lot of bollocks just by looking at his site and reading his story.

It's a great story/achievement and the press/bloggers and Internet buzz sites love it.

Think of the kind of links that generates.

The only achievement here is using the press etc as a creative SEO tool to get up in the rankings for competative terms.

I doubt he will ever post his earnings prior to the buzz he created with his horse muck story - because they don't exist. Only after did he start making any money.

Um nothing was proven. SM's post was linkbait, and a good one at that.

I'm not sure how you think you fake a top 800 Alexa (and it isn't a webmaster site) or how you think you don't make money being #4 for "online dating" and #2 for "free online dating" on G.

Yeah it was a good story for SM to write about but it's true. It rung bells as soon as I read it.. didn't it anyone else? Come on.. it's online dating you're talking about.

Didn't the guy say he blocked Alexa to begin with to go 'under the radar'?

Doesn't that ring bells? He did not block Alexa to start with. They just didn't rate him anything then for obvious reasons.

He didn't earn a penny or rank for any dating terms until his little story got circulated. That is what got him his rankings and the money that goes with them.

You know what though? Who cares, really? I do not need anyone to prove to me what they make, nor do I require photos and screenshots. You can tell whose advice is sound and whose is not. It is common sense.

Another way to tell is to ask your self this:

"Is this person trying to sell me something?"

If they have something to gain, like your money, then it is bullshit!!!

Look at Shoemoney. The guy genuinely wants to share. But the dude never tries to sell you anything. If I made $10, 000 a month, I certainly would not go bragging about it unless I was helping someone out.

All this time wondering who is making what and I could have been doing something productive.:)

    >>it's online dating you're talking about.

?? not sure what that means... there is a LOT of money in online dating. Imagine the traffic from being on the first page of those results (online dating, free online dating, dating sites). He is right there with match.com, eharmony, etc.

    >>Doesn't that ring bells? He did not block Alexa to start with. They just didn't rate him anything then for obvious reasons.

How do you block Alexa? Looking at the history graph, he has been top 2000 for over a year and top 1000 since January. I deal with a top 1000 site that is not web-related and it moves a TON of traffic. The page view numbers are massive... so if he is now top-800 and has been top-2000 for a year, he has had a lot of traffic for a long time.

    >>He didn't earn a penny or rank for any dating terms until his little story got circulated. That is what got him his rankings and the money that goes with them.

Huh? The story came out, what, a few months ago? The site has been top 2000 Alexa for a year and I doubt he jumped up to page 1 of "online dating" just from a WMW story. And he admitted he had done plenty of Adwords advertising to generate traffic so not of all that is profit.

I think you underestimate Shoemoney TCR. ;)

Rarely have I seen him share anything of value that didn't directly or indirectly benefit his wallet, eg. The $10,000 dollar experiment.

If you can't see how that directly benefitted SM's pocket you need to listen to him more carefully or think about why he is doing such things!

But this is what it's all about.

I think people need to learn to see things for what they are.

Plentyoffish.com made false claims about their earnings to generate the buzz that would see them to the top of the engines and might, didn't they do well and cover it up? No-one doubts them now hardly, but it's clear as day if you're able to spot bullshit when you see it!

It's a great strategy. If you don't have a good story, invent one.

    Ok

    Here it goes

Someone found shoemoney posted his check online and brought it up in SEW forums,

Jeremey agreed it was him indeed and then Marcus was brought into the discussion and after having been called on things enough Marcus posted one of his checks.

(I say one as I do not know whether he has more since or before and it is not my concenrn..)

My concern is getting one that high as well

This is the start of the thread

    http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/showthread.php?t=11957

Now its settled for all I think...time to move on to a new subject!!!

Nah, well aye that's obviously part of it.. but also think of the mobile/ringtone scrapers he freely admits owning.

If you're talking more about promoting AZ ads then look no further then the free laptop he received and blogged about.

I aren't doggin' on the fella - I'm just saying there's always more to these things then meets the eye, just as the plentyoffish.com story.

I dont know, I guess. I suppose there is no black and white. I think the guy (SM) is pretty straight forward and legitimately shares info.

All I meant is, WHO CARES WHAT ANYONE ELSE IS MAKING? :p

I just want to increase MY earnings!:D

If BS'ing about your website and getting a story circulated through WMW will generate million dollar Adsense checks, then sign me up. I seriously doubt he started making that sort of cash just because some webmaster sites noticed him. Plentyoffish has been a force in the dating site arena for more than a few months.

What pisses me off is 5 years ago I told my designer buddy "Bro, let's make an all free online dating site, and run adsense + ads on it, that's how we'll make money". He is like "No man, a free dating site would never work, you need to get your $ from the subscriptions"

Guess I should have followed my gut!

Guessing you should only bet on yourself, not others.

Besides, if you simply build it, doesn't mean they will come.

If he can't make $10,000 per day from ranking 4th on google for the term "online dating" then he clearly needs some tips from the adsense forum.

Whether its true or not I reckon he got a load of extra links from saying it. Look at google trends as well, he must get a massive amount of traffic to get this graph.
