Having your sites on different IPs is great - How about the nameservers?

    Hello all,

    Simple question.

I like to link between my sites. I only do it when the niche is very relevant so it looks fine, but I know that if all my sites are under the same IP, then linking them all together could be very risky.

So, I divided my sites onto 7 different IPs.

The only problem is that all of them are under the same nameservers. Could this diminish the effect of the different IPs? If so, any way to work around it? Custom nameservers maybe?

    Thanks in advance!

Probably not if you are on shared hosting...for example, if you have Bluehost then you can be on 20 dif. IP's but you are always going to use NS1.BLUEHOST.COM AND NS2.BLUEHOST.COM.....The IP is the important part...more specificly, if you can get different C-Class IP's.

I will say that you MIGHT be a little suspicious if its on namesevers like ns1.johnsserver.com.....but I doubt it because there are somany hosts out there they will prolly just look at you as if you are a web host.

Perfect :) That's what I wanted to hear. I am not with BLUEHOST but i am on a similar host so I guess it's the same thing! As long as the main host is big - I am fine, right?

Yes you are find as i don't think google will base rankings on nameservers as they can change in a flash.

I disagree. I think you need to be on different hosting accounts. Its easy to tell from the IP range that all your domains are under XYZ hosting, does not look "natural". It has to look normal, and that means different hosting accounts.

    Hey gregoz,

That's an interesting thought. However, my sites are spread around servers that are on different locations (even though they are under the same host). So, we are not talking about a range of IPs under the same server, we are talking about almost completely different IPs. The only thing connecting them together would be the nameservers.

OK thats different, but does it still meet the "natural" rule. Google has got to have something in its algorithm looking for all these nets of self promoting sites (which I have as well). I have read people saying different hosting, nameservers, registrars and you would have to say that in the real world, thats what real "natural" links would look like.

I don't trust google, and assume they are out to get me (even paranoid people have people out to get them), so I have to be very careful that they don't see anything in common with my sites.
