Find a really interesting news article, paste in on your blog, submit that page with the article posted on to digg.com, and cross your fingers. If its an interesting a new article, then you will get many diggs on that news article, and you will be seeing lots of traffic coming in and increase in backlinks.

the easy answer is adwords. That can get costly though.

When trying to build free traffic you have to understand that any one thing you do may get you 5-10 visitors in the beginning. when you submit a new article you will get 5-10 visitors, when you post on digg you will get 5-10 visitors, you will get 5-10 visitors from a squidoo lens.

The real secret to generating free traffic is...
Market like a mad man! write 10 articles and submit them, then digg them all, then rewrite them and build 3-4 squidoo lenses, buy content and rewrite it and submit it to article directories, build a mailing list and start a newsletter. Then once you do all that, start over and keep going.

This is not like "Field of Dreams" just because you build it, doesnt mean they will come.

Marketing a new site is painstaking work and can take months and months.

Just dont give up, what i did was dedicate 2 hours each day purely maximising links, posting to blogs, submiting to sites/directories etc.

Then as it starts to earn a bit, you can then pay for links, use adwords etc.

You will then (hopefully) get to a stage when its paying for itself and making profit. at this point i then outsource to web marketing companies.

I dont think anyone can say when a site will 'take off' as its different for all

Ive seen a site take 100+ orders in there 1st week live, whilst others are still struggling a year later.

Write something new and ask for a link from a popular entertainment site.
