Having second thoughts on duplicate content and traffic exchanges

After a month of experimenting, I am having second thoughts on duplicate content and traffic exchanges.
On 10 Feb, I started a new blog, and uploaded content from article directories. I set the publishing rate at 1 post per day.
After that I submitted to traffic exchange, easyhits4u. (no adsense, no banner on this new blog). I set the daily visits at 20.
10 days later, that experimential blog received its first visitor from Google. A few days later, another few visitors from Google.
Beside submitting the blog to blogcatalog, and technorati, plus followlist (since it's a dofollow blog), I have done nothing to get links.
Now I am really puzzled. Is duplicate content useless? If so, how come Google index my blog post? Is traffic exchange useless? If so, why a new blog can get out of Sandbox in less than 2 weeks?
Any thought on this matter? I am wondering whether to continue with this blog.
