having negative keyword match my "phrase" keyword

    This is what I am getting in AdWords:

    You have this keyword in your negative keywords and if they overlap your keyword won't show.

    I have a keyword in "phrase" mode called 'blue widgets in Seattle'

    I have a negative keyword in the same adgroup called [blue widgets in Seattle]

    If this is typed in to google I want the exact adgroup where this keyword is to pop up.

    Can I do this in google? Just to help my quality score. I was trying to instituie what I read in this article.

    Negative keyword means you don't want your ad to pop up when your search for a particular keyword. You can't want your ads to pop up but then not.

    If you want your ads to appear on google remove the negative keyword -blue widgets in Seattle

    Why in the world would you want to negative with an exact match? I assume you would want and likely have the exact match keyword in the group or another group. Adwords handles that sort of thing automatically: if you have an exact match, it will show your ad for that exact match. If you have a negative on it, the system may get confused and not show your ad at all. As I recall, a few people tried this and this is in fact what happened: no impressions.

    If you don't want the exact match version of the keyword to trigger ads at all, why have the phrase match? Don't make sense. It won't help quality score either.

    I just read the article you linked to, and it looks like garbage to me. There is no benefit to what he suggests.

    I don't think you've quite followed what's being suggested in the article that you're linking to.

    As mentioned above, there's no reason to have the negative keyword match in the same ad group as the exact match.

    It's not completely clear, but it sounds like he has got the idea to me. He has the phrase match as a positive keyword, and the exact match as a negative keyword, in the same ad group. If he has the exact match as a positive keyword in a different ad group (which seem implied by his comment "I want the exact adgroup where this keyword is to pop up."), then that is exactly what the article suggests.

    However, I still do not see any benefit to the technique.

    I believe this "technique" was first mentioned earlier this year on a site called Stompernet. They call it the triangulation method. I also see no benefits of doing this. As I mentioned earlier, you don't even need to do this.
