Flash is 2-edged sword. It can make your website look and feel orgasmic but it will slow your website down . Make it more vulnerable to hackers and due to huge loading times it will drive away a lot of new traffic .
most of simple animation effects for photo album can be done with javascript, and there are a lot of js framework to ease the job, flash isn't dead yet, and probably not in the near future, but it will be less and less favorable from compliance and SEO perspective
Huge loading times is no longer true, most flash work these days is xml driven, and an image/video/text takes exactly the same time to load in flash or html. What makes me smile about this, is that a lot of really nicely designed html sites these days, using large images as backgrounds or on the page, take a few seconds to fully load, of course it starts loading immediately, and you have bits popping up one after the other, with sometimes the background image finally appearing 5 seconds after the first load, not very elegant imo...As far as security, HTML/WP are far from being secure themselves, I've heard a lot of WP themes are getting hacked these days. Anyways, Flash is far from being perfect, but nothing is...just use the right tool for the right job ;-)
