Having a competition to build your opt-in list??

Is it a good idea to have a competition to build your opt-in list?

I run an art blog and I was going to give away a free hardback book (by a very popular guy) to the winner in return for people signing up to my newsletter.

    Thoughts?

    1. I run a competition on my site
    2. To enter it, people need to sign up to the newsletter
    3. I announce the winner after a month
    4. I also get an opted-in list

Yes - its one of the most common ways. Why else would people run a competition.

Actually you've given me a really good idea.

How about a competition to get people into your list. Use an Aweber tracking variable to reward the person with the highest number of referrals....

    Might try it....

Why not make it an actual competition where people actually compete...instead of just making it a drawing?

If it's an art blog, then have people attach their art pics and then after a few weeks let people vote on them. Maybe even raise the prize amount...give away something a little more substantial.

Then start focusing on cities...once city at a time. Go to each one, and send all the local papers and news stations a press release.

Excellent ideas thank you. Makes great sense to get artsists actually involved in creating something for the site!
