But the thing you seem to be missing. The three suicides were not convicted terrorists. There were no convictions made against them, they had no legal support, no trial, no mention of a crime.

What makes you think they are terrorists? Because they are muslim?

I think any of us would suicide in the situation they have been placed in.

PROOF of torture, no legal grounds for imprisonment, no 'release' date or options, no trials.

I am sure you would all be looking at it differently if it was an IRaqi prison holding US people with no legal support etc. who then suicide.

Well, since many of them came into custody in afghanistan and were with the taliban, then guilt by association seems pretty apparent. I have a real hard time feeling sorry for people who were either aligned with enemies of the US or outright members of Alqaeda or another terrorist camp.

What a bunch of crap! We treat them 1000 times better then they ever treated our prisioners. I also love how you make it out like they were just innocently plowing there poppie fields when we swoop in and took them to Cuba. The truth is they were actively fighting agianst us (The USA) and they are lucky we are so kind as to only imprision them and not just blow there brains out on the battle field. The fact that we are even discussing Cuban Prisioners is more then proof of the United States overabundance of generocity and human rights...

Actually I think you will find that many being held in Cuba currently were not caught 'on the battlefield' as you 'make it out'.

Lorien -- Many were not captured i nthe presence, or with 100% evidence that they were anythign to do with taliban, if they were then they do not go to Guantamino, they get trialed as any war criminal.

The ones in Guantamino are 'suspects' only, bar a handful who the US claimed were 'confident' were related to taliban, the rest are there under suspicion nothing more.

It seems you btoh have your wires mixed up, all this talk of 'aligned with terrorists', 'terrorist camp', 'were with the taliban', 'battlefield', 'actively fighting'. None of these terms relate to Guantamino prisoners, these people were not captured in combat.

And since when was being held in Cuba proof of generocity and human rights? It is a situation used by many countries to avoid the generocity and human rights that their own countries (US) would provide.

I'm glad we have all those terrorists locked up in Gitmo Hilton. Luxuary accommodations, special "halal" meals made just for them, every day, recreation time, hand-tailored clothing, scenic views, moderate climates. Heck, they are even given qurans, the very book that incited the actions that got them there in the first place! On top of that, they get to listen to Britney Spears music!

Could it be any cushier at the Gitmo Hilton? Poor terrorists and enemy combatants just don't realize how good they have it there. They ought to try a real federal prison. I'm sure they'd be screaming to renew their reservations at the Gitmo Hilton.

Sounds like a few here are in extreme denial of reality ;)

Lessons learned? If you can't pay the time at the Gitmo Hilton, don't take up the cause of allah (killing Christians and Jews).

    From BOJ website:

Suicides had been the leading cause of jail inmate deaths in 1983, but the death rate from illnesses and natural causes (69 per 100,000 inmates) was higher in 2002.

People kill themselves in prison. I have never once heard a story about an American committing suicide in an American prison on my evening news. So why are they reporting on it now? Do they not care about the hundreds of prisoners that have killed themselves in the past?

I'd love to stay at Gitmo.

But only if part of the "oh they don't torture them" crowd comes with me, disguises themself to look like an actual prisoner and agrees to under go this "non-torture".

    Any takers ?

    I bet not.

    Americans caring about prisoners ?

Let's not get ahead of ourselves here.

Let's start with Americans caring about anything other than a big-mac, a SUV and getting their party on.

Then we can try the bigger subject.

    Agreed?

    ;)

This post of yours clearly shows that there is only one reason you've joined into this conversation ... you want to bash someone and America seems to be a good target today.

    Noobiedooky -

It's an easy enough target, and I would agree that we have become a hellishly consumerist society. And I don't agree with the direction we're going at the moment.

But this land has shown some serious balls in times when serious balls we're needed; we have been a friend to the world when such a friend was needed. We have done wrong, and committed atrocities, but we have fought the good fight more often than not.

America was a noble experiment that worked. The ills we face now are real - but they don't wipe out the generations of good that have been created. You can continue to rail against what is patently obvious, or take a deeper look and make an intelligent decision for yourself.
