Have your punished by the big G?

Has anyone else seen a decrease in rankings as of late. I was at a number 3 spot for a keyword phrase on one of my sites. I had been slowly building up and all of a sudden I'm at number 12. What the hell?

P.S. This site is not in any of the directories being affected by the recent "Google snafu."

    Any ideas?

Google rankings change often if you are not an absolute authority in the subject... waht was your keyword?

Hey, yeah i have gone from position 3 on page one of google for logo design down to page three. My site hasnt been changed in any way, so the move must be down to algorithmic changes

There are so many reasons why your sites are losing rankings. Below you find some of the questions you might ask yourself:

    - When was it last updated?
    - What about the backlink growth compared to your competitors in the SERPS?
    - Bought links in flagged directories?

The list can go on and on.. :) Could give you better advice if you give us the URL.

I think I figured it out. Back on page one. Just an algo burp or something.

I've been curious about this too.

My first attempt at a basic site (www.simplyfreeiphone.co.uk) went live about a month ago. After a week it was featuring near the top of page one of the UK pages of both Google and Yahoo for the keyword/phrases "free iphone" and "free apple iphone".

It is now on the second page of Google and search result number 32 of Yahoo

Anyone want $50 to get it back to the top (or near to the top) on page one results?

I definitely have, and to this date I still don't know why.

I was Top 3 in google for about 15 high performing keywords in my sites niche, I was getting about 500 uniques a day that were converting at a super high rate.

Then suddenly gone from the SERPS, except for 50-100 long tail keywords a day, I was getting no google traffic.

I sold the site as I felt hopeless with it. The profits had dropped 50% in a matter of days.

Just a few months after selling it the buyer showed me his analytics account, and the site was back climbing to the top of the serps.

So what did I learn? Don't give up on sites just bc they die in google for a while, put them off to the side, casually update them, and wait.

The big G just can't decide what they want to do with their algo. I guess you can't blame them, they are essentially trying to win a huge battle against thousands of webmasters. They have to throw a wrench in there every once in a while.

Google does the same sort of thing to me too every once in a while. So I just write more content, post a few more articles and get a few more backlinks and soldier on. In the end it's going to be the sites that really contribute to a topic that are going to win.
