I have been watching page ranks and backlinks go up and down since about Thurs night. Today all I see is old page ranks and back links. Any one else seeing this? Shannnon
I saw some my sites go up, just a week ago. Some from 5 to 6, one from 6 to 7 (1800 reported backlinks) and one day PR started to fluctuate, and now some have their new page rank and some are back to where they were before. Not that it matters in ranking though.
Hi, I am having a simmilar problem for the last 10 days, the page rank for some keywords jumps from 1 to 10,000 or so and back the next day, i too am worried, can somebody help. Rakesh Anand www.arounddelhi.com
Inbound links and PR seems to be almost steady now. My question is: When will the SERPS change as a result of this update? (Or will they?)
My understanding is that they won't change drastically when the pr/backlinks update happens because Google knew about the links and increased pr well before it "updated". Which is why the SERPS change daily, rather then only when an update happens. I've noticed a big jump in the SERPS every 2-3 weeks or so, which is usually 1.5-2 weeks before the offical update.
Actually, it's been more like 7 days for me. I've seen a few sites migrate and settle (pr 5 -6 ) but I've a couple that just won't settle down. I've one in particular (I'm talking PR not SERPS) that keeps jumping around like a yoyo - and I've seen it change 3 times in as many hours just now (reads: loads of times over the last seven days). Not to mention.. I had one site showing pr0 (new site) and doing well in the serps - plenty of traffic. Next thing I know I jump to a PR5 but I go south in the SERPS - hmmm.. it's prolly another topic.. ie Google loves new sites/should we really buy PR etc. PS: The site that's jumping around is a large site - anyone else see this on a large site ?
try not to focus on short term changes in PR or SERPS...that will get you nowhere.. remember, the little green bar is just a symbolic representation of a sites' PR, and might not always be up to date... keep on getting backlinks with strong anchor text, and your website will stand the test of time... on a side note, i do believe it's true that google artificially inflates the rankings of a new site (based on experience)...they tend to rank high in the SERPs for a little while before they get pushed back a few pages, or vanish completely.....don't worry...with a little bit of time and a lot of good links, the results will come back
Toddeig, I have seen a site do exactly what you described. Was about three weeks old, went to number one for a reasonable keyword, stayed in the top ten for a couple of weeks and then disappeared. Regardless of what I seem to do I can't get it back to a decent position.
jarvi, i've seen it a million times....patience my friend...patience.. here's a hint....get links without having to give links...(there are lots of way's to do this...be creative)
Good idea toddieg, please **do** be creative and explain Handing out an ambiguous statement like that.. well.. what do you mean by creative ? - Go find some directories ? Go find some autosubmission software > after all FFA's don't require reciprocal linkage - but I'd never use them. Go find some autosubmit sites ? Go write a plug-in for the latest popular CMS that carries your url/s ?, go buy some linkage ? Go surf the net and see how others do it ? It's nice to sit around waiting (ie exhibiting patience), but the truth is (as you stated) relevant, anchored linkage is the key, and finding it requires anything but patience. You have to actively seek it. I've a question - and it's basically Javis' question over again: A site, deployed, floats around for 2 weeks, then whammo - top o the serps. There for 2 weeks, nice traffic etc then: Jumps from PR0 to PR 5.. at the same time takes a **dive** in the serps. I'm thinking link building is the only answer, so: When Google does this: the new site thing (which most engines do) where a site enjoys maiden traffic - can this be used as a bench mark ? If so - how would you quantify it (ie perhaps this maiden traffic/serps rank) is equivalent to a moderately optimized site with x themed backlinks and pr x.. Yes I know it can't really be summarized like that.. and theres sooo many variants.. but generally speaking - could you take your maiden serp rank and at least say.. OK - this is a target I'm going to achieve ? or surpass by 100%+ ? Is it typical, on average for site that's moderately optimized to exceed this ? I'd love to hear what you all have to say on this, because like Javi - I too could use some additional perspectives. PS: ALL input is welcome, ambiguity is after all relative
john_lock, sorry to be so vague..let me try and explain what i mean by being creative participate in reciprocal links pages, but don't rely 100% on them. try writing a 'free to use' article that people will find informative and want to post on their site as content...in addition to being able to place links within the article, you can also place a resource box at the end, which can also provide a link back to your website. or, have someone really smart (like a professor..hint hint) write an article for your website. if you're lucky he or she will link back to you from their webpage (probably a university with high page rank) if you don't like articles, try using a 3rd party website to exchange links. for instance, get a separate website with a pretty good page rank (becacuse it will lure in link exchangers) and use it as a link exchange program. The difference is, you make the user link to a separate site, while you provide them a link from your 3rd party website. for instance theirsite.com links to yoursite.com and the3rdpartysite.com links to theirsite.com ... this way, yoursite.com doesn't need to give out a link, but will still receive one... creating a one-way link. if you don't like that idea, try installing some link exchange software. it will manage your links for you, so you don't have to waste all day writing emails or filling out forms. again, if you have a pretty decent page rank on your link exchange pages, then people will use it. (i don't know why, but everyone is obsessed with page rank ... don't be... it is just a green bar that doesn't really represent where you are in the results pages, but how popular your site is 'perceived' by others) if you're into spending money try this one out. spend about $100 a month and buy as many cheap hosting plans as you can. set up a network of websites, put a little bit of content on each page, and then you can place links to all of your sites...you can also cross link between sites creating a 'rubbing off' effect with page rank.. (it's important to have your links coming from different IP addresses) you can also spend $ on ppc programs like adwords and overture..that will get you instantly ranked for terms you never thought possible also, don't forget to interlink within your own website... check out people's backlinks in google and you'll notice that lots of pages have links coming from their own website. for instance instead of only using <a href="page.html"> place a few links that have the full url like <a href="http://www.yoursite.com/page.html"> if you can program, create a really cool online program that everyone will want to link to. (just like shawn's programs and the website your reading this on) ... i'm sure he gets PLENTY of one-way links as a result... note: you don't have to be a programmer.. just create ANYTHING that people will naturally want to link to....something free is always good. use a also use a signature file (with a clickable link) and post in forums to get links. if the forum is 'robot friendly' and can be crawled then you will get plenty of backlinks just for posting. oh...and don't forget to get backlinks to lots of the pages in your site, not just the main page. this will help other pages come up for different terms. those are all the 'tricks' i can think of right now..if anything else comes to me i'll let you know -Toddie G ps. damn that was long...i apologize..i hate reading long posts.
