This is so BS. I was wondering why one of my site made 30 when it should be $5 plus.

Google is going to learn how crappy of a mistake this was. Everyone will get way less clicks.

I wonder if the clicks are going to start being worth more.(probably not)

If anyone is getting less clicks due to the changes could it be that your ads are placed in such a way as to where they were getting a lot of accidental clicks?

The reason I ask this is because my CTR and eCPM have not dropped at all since this change was made.

Not really. My clicks are up by 50%, but my eCPM isn't. I wonder how long it'll take to see if our earnings will go back to normal or not.

I wish there was a real Adsense alternative. I would move ASAP, cuz this is a fucking bullshit. I used to earn around 20$ a day, now only 1.09$. I give adsense 5 days to get better, then I am moving to adbrite.

I'd be curious to hear from the folks who are not seeing a drop, what size ads are you using?

Our CTR is down on our 336x280 ad blocks mostly. We are in the process of changing those out to a more compact ad unit. The 336x280 takes up too much real estate compared to "clickable" area. The 250x250 is better, since the title font is larger (more clickable area), etc.

I just noticed something else on one of my sites.

A 728x90 leaderboard (showing 4 ads) only had the clickable area on the title. Even the URL at the bottom of each ad didn't appear to be clickable.

Obviously I can't test it on my own ads so I'm looking around to see if I can test it on another site.

    Anyone else notice this?

[EDIT] The ad in question was one of those that had a "Show More" link at the bottom.

Well, there's not much you can do despite changing title and URL colors. i made stand out more.

And of course my site was generating accidental clicks. every site lives from accidental clicks, some have more, some less. In my niche for example, mainly 14-18 year old people seem to have generated alot accidental clicks, as my earnings are reduced by 50% since the change.

my forums for example surely have generated a good ammount of accidental clicks. People click stuff and might hit a well placed adsense unit by accident.

Ermm NO they wont learn because most people will be happy that they are getting less clicks but more relevant clicks, so when before they were getting xx amount of clicks aday on there add now they might get x but at least they know that it was more relevant and someone actually meant to click on there site.

From this yes clicks will probably go up for advertisers because they will want more relevant clicks and will compete more, which means the publishers will also have less clicks but the value will be better if you are in the right niche and your not ad spamming etc

And one other thing. Does this new restriction on the clickable area also apply to premium publishers? I've just looked on plentyoffish.com and the entire ad seems to be clickable.

i dont actually think that they will apply it unless you change the ad your self with the new script, as all of my old scripts are still running and so are the new ones ive updated.

Same thing for me... I kind of like it, now it seems more like you're clicking a real link instead of an image...

    Mine have changed as well.
(this will make it less likely to accidentally click them myself!)

the font size on the 336x280 will vary, depending on how many ads are in the block... sometimes it only has two ads, so the font is giant.

but i do have a channel on those ad blocks, they always had a low ctr but a big epc, now the ctr may be down a bit tho.

Check again. They are still running but you can't click on the body text anymore.

This is the first I knew of the change and I can't say I've noticed any difference one way or the other, but I never placed my ads where they could be clicked by accident before so I guess most people were clicking the text link area anyway.

Folks, did any of you noticed the strange behavior of impressions tracking after the new ads were introduced? Here is what I mean - the URL channels show 1/3 rd of what custom channels show. For example: I created a url channel and a custom channel. All ads on a particular websites are being tracked with that custom channel. At the end of the day, the url channel will show 1,500 impressions whereas custom channel will show 4,500 impressions... What the hell is happening? Anyone noticed this?
