Have any of you guys registered a domain for your family name
    like www.smith.com ?

I've registered for my name (it's a long and difficult one) for all 3 .com, .net, .org. Have had it for 5 years now with still no content.

Obviously it's useless now but I'm hoping one day when I'm rich and famous ;)

edit: damn, tried to add a poll to it, clicke on add poll and it just ignored me :(
anyway, the options would have been, yes, no, and "I'm off to do it now"

I managed to grab the .us version of mine; all the other TLDs were long gone. The .com version site has been suspended by its host for some time...but it's registration doesn't expire for some years.

I missed the opportunity or registering the dot com version of mine. I do not think I will ever have the opportunity of getting.

I bought the .us version and would buy more if they were available. Think if you have US genealogy they are ideal for a family genealogy site.

I discovered when looking for a domain name for a business a number of years ago, that one group was buying up surnames and allowing people to rent them so to speak so they could have their last name in their e-mail address.
