Hi, i never did this before for whole site (20-40 ) pages from non seo ex. http://www.xx.com/UI/Items.aspx?id=75 to seo link with meanings ex.http://www.xx.com/UI/food-coupon. and then redirect the old urls to the new one... did pr drop ? i know traffic will go up... but any effect on seo... your recommendation to go... do it ? thanks
So long as you use SEO friendly redirects (301) then you'll be fine to do this. I've seen many large and small sites change their URL structures with little effect on their rankings. For good measure submit an XML sitemap to the search engines too with your new URL's, this will help speed up indexing of the new URL's.
the same sitemap just add the new links right?...better than submit total new one and ignore the old links
I don't think that you'll realisticly see that much benefit to doing all the 301s unless you have external links pointing to those specific pages. I would only concern yourself with the main pages as long as the domain is staying the same. Doing the SE Friendly URLs will be a major benefit by itself.
Before anyone starts, I want to clarify myself I am not stating that 301s are useless at all. The amount of 301s would be determined by the individual pages. I would first investigate the analytics of this site and determine what are the top entry pages from SEs this would give me a better idea of how widespread I need to use the 301s. It would not be necessary to redirect a page that: 1. pulls no traffic from the SEs 2. Has no external links pointing to it
@bikeman ..thanks for all these info's the main domain will stay same .. no external links to pages we will re direct all traffic comes to homepage ..(main domain index) it's 23 pages i will re direct which best code you used for 301 and always work fine ?
