Have You Met a DP Member in the Real World - Or anyone you work with online?

In this industry you don't often get to meet people you chat and work with on a regular basis online in real life.

I've had a great time at conferences and traveling around getting to meet some people in real life. I've been lucky enough to meet John Chow, Niel Patel and many others.

Still I would like to meet more of the people I work with.

Have you ever met anyone here on DP, or anyone else you work with online?

Well not in my case. I do chatting and never got a chance to meet some one.

Meeting with someone you only met online is really awesome! It's far better than online chatting.

No, i think I'd faint from the shock.

when ipad launched I was messing about with the demos in the tech stores I "just happened" to be passing.

    either
I played the duelling carls and got heaps of feedback from customers and sales guys about their fave "carls" clips
    or
    I opened up dp, nothing.

Have edited a couple of big directories either voluntarily or professionally since '99, and in the last decade have had opportunities to meet a number of folks I initially met in forums.

The first time was a fellow editor that was going to be passing fairly close on a cross-country trip... and I drove up to Oklahoma to settle a bet on whether an old guy could beat a youngster at foosball. [The answer is... "Like a toy drum". :p] The kid ended up spending New Years at our house a few years in a row.

Since then have had the opportunity to meet many more folks I initially only knew online, and it's always fun cause on the one hand you feel like you know them, on the other hand you've never had a face-to-face with them and it's always a little startling. Funniest was when I met a Romanian guy that was in the vicinity (I live near DFW airport) and even though he spoke darned good English he found out that Texan's easier to read than to decipher in person. He swears I dont speak English.

Anyway... while I dont suggest 13 yr old girls run out and have meetings with guys they *think* they know online... for adults meeting just to say hi to co-workers or forum friends I'd recommend it. It's a lotta fun. :)

I caught up with one fellow mod from a forum... horrific! Nice guy, well meaning but zero common ground apart from the forum. Little things like personal hygiene & morbid obesity make quite an impact :)

Haven't met anyone in DP in real life. I doubt I'll be able to, DP rarely gets members from our place. Quite few actually.

I haven't met the people with whom I work and communicate online and I don't want to do this because I'm afraid of the possible disappointment:( The people can differ from those whom they are trying to appear online.
