Have you made money from a blogspot blog?

    Hi guys,
I've heard a lot of people say that if you're serious about making money online, then you should have your own hosted site and not a free blogger/wordpress account. But I was just wondering, have any of you guys made serious money from a blogspot.com blog? I've seen a lot of guys starting blogs in blogger and doing paid reviews, banner ads, adsense, etc. How successful are these blogs?

Have any of you people made over $1000 from a blogspot blog? I'd like to know. Thanks very much in advance for your time. :)

I started blogging with blogspot. I have four blogs with them and they all have PR. I have made quite a bit on those blogs with advertising. Many people frown on them but I like the fact that, most times, they are around a lot longer than a self-hosted blog. Many self-hosted blogs sell a bunch of advertising then they sell the blog and the advertiser loses the links.

With that said, I still prefer my self-hosted blogs and I can do much more with them than with my blogspot blogs. Plus, you can sell them if you lose interest or do not have time to maintain them. My self-hosted Word Press Blogs are not as old as my blogspot blogs so the earnings are not as high but most people prefer advertising on them. For the cost, around $27 a year, to host and domain cost, it is worth investing in a self-hosted domain.

Sure, you can make money from free blogging platforms such as Blogspot. I'm making more than 1k per month from them and that is the honest truth. :)

However, if you want to be serious online money maker, I would suggest that you go for domains of your own. You will have more online money making options by doing so.

Actually, the main thing I wanted to ask was this - When you have a good money making blog in blogspot which makes you about $1000 every month, you don't want to lose it at any cost. However, in Google's terms and conditions, it's been mentioned that Google can take off any blog for any reason whatsoever. With this being the case, what kind of plans do you people have for backing up the data in your blog?

I don't remember reading anywhere that Google had carte blanche to delete Blogger blogs willy nilly - I'm sure that's not the case. As far as I'm aware they'll only delete blogs that are overtly spammy or have illegal content - even then they'll usually allow the Google Account holder a chance to have the decision reviewed.

People can make good money on Blogger.

I agree, they do not remove blogs without cause. Google is a top company for a reason. It they just deleted blogs for no reason, blogger would go down the tubes quickly.

If you follow the rules, the blog will remain for as long as blogger is around. I have not heard anything of it being closed down so the blog should be safe.

    do this thing..

get a domain atleast.. a info domain.. from godaddy or other

then attach it to your blogspot.. *there is some settings involved

now build your blogspot with some blogspot creator.. keep backup of your articles content etc..

    now start promoting your domain

    directory submission
    article directory submission
    link exchange
    forum brag
    social bookmarking
    digg stumble
    ppc
    etc

now if google bitch bytes your blogspot blog..

you atleast have a popular domain with 1000s of visitors coming..
start again a blogspot blog.. with your backed upcontent
point the domain to the blogspot free hosting..

Blogspot is a free blog hosting.. nothing more..

you need to promote your domain.. not your blogspot free hosting

and yes its possible to make $10000 from blogspot.. as same as its possible to make $10000 from a hostgator phpmysql hosting..

its the content that makes the $$$ not where you are hosted..

Say you made a super kool ebook.. that has 10000 downloads and 100 sales of $99 each
    thats $9900

    it can be hosted anywhere..

infact it even dont need any hosting.. you can just post in dp and warrior forum and see the $9900 in your paypal

Yes absolutely it is possible to make that much and switching to a custom domain is surprisngly straightforward and easy if you want total control to develop it and sell it on then wordpress is the better option but if you have multiple blogs and do not want additional multiple hosting costs then blogspot does the job and as long as you are not doing anything naughty im sure google will not give you any problems.

Thanks for your opinions guys. One last question - Is there a limit/restriction as far as the number of blogs are concerned? Say, is it okay if I have like 30 blogs under my account?

I agree with surf4fun - it definetely won't hurt to start at Blogger with your own domain, and after your blog becomes popular/you'll feel the need to have more features, you can easily switch to WordPress without losing link love and PR.

I have blogs at blogger, but haven't made serious money from them, but you could, regardless of them being free hosted or not.

There's no limit. Thirty should be no problem as they all have some quality content. Bear in mind too that if you make 30 blogs in as many minutes they're likely to get flagged as spam.
