I've learned by myself and taken a few classes for the more advanced stuff.

Everything changes so quickly, your knowledge from a class is obsolete before you're done! Just get your hands dirty and go at it - you'll learn! Just be sure to always back up your work :D

Like everybody else here: I learned this stuff by doing it. HTML is the easiest coding language imaginable. CSS is harder, but even there I don't think most designing schools teach it yet - or can keep up with the times on it.

Learned at school from home. Open University has excelent courses and when you finish them all, you'll receive a certificate in Web Applications Development.

If you interested only in PHP and MySQL take courses TT381 and TT380. Those I liked the most.

All this will give you a good start for further development. Do not expect to be a pro only from this.

i have learned from the internet. from hundred of tutorials. and i tend to think this is the best and the right method to do. also in time i started to have friends more advanced than me. forums were a big help, so was freenode network of irc channels.

By my experience, the teachers tend to learn you stupid things like use ables when in fact you should use something else. They usually give no importance to semantic markup and ignore more or less CSS. unfortunatelly.
