Have you heard of Gumtree?

I put an ad on Gumtree.com for free and have had many visits via it many regional sites.

Has anyone heard of it before? I can't find any further information and wondered if someone had experience - good or bad.

I always worry about something for nothing - but as yet I've had no reason for concern - no upsurge in spam emails or telephone calls.

Please let me know what you think

Gumtree is a fantastic way of getting visitors to your site! All be it UK only, it is a UK version of Craigslist!

Today about 40% of uniques have come from gumtree. Also, yesterday I found some work from it. There are adverts from work at home and scammers (it would appear) but not that many and the interesting adverts stand out. I find it very efficient too. In my experience (mostly marketing/sales but not web) I've never come across a vehicle for national advertising like this which is free. I'll try and remember to update here with any further gumtree news. Does anyone know a similar site?

Never heard of it...(i guess mainly because it's for UK only as mentioned above).

No need to worry though, alexa and good PR seems to show it's quite a reputable site.

Oh you Spam Righteous types  I'd rather flush than remain stagnant :p

There is spam on there, I said as much, but I've also found it very useful. Not only has in increased my uniques but I've found one (possibly two) pieces of work from it.

I still want people's opinions on Gumtree but can they be from people who have something to say based on what we are talking about here (Gumtree) and not general ongoing moans?

I'm glad I know Gumtree is owned by ebay now but object to the high and mighty way I was informed. I'm part time, relatively new to this realm and don't pretend to know everything. That needed saying but generally, I should point out, most replies I've had from this forum have been helpful, encouraging and not mindful of my basic level skills.

This topic is 6 days old as I write this and still I haven't had any negative reports about Gumtree.
