That's exactily my approach I look for undervalued assets, I'm not fussy on the type of asset as long as I can understand it I'm interested. I look for intrinsic value, taught myself accountacy and I can safely say that it's made me a lot of money. I'll buy a whole company or business if A) I can afford it and B) it's undervalued. I have been thinking of buying GBP/USD as I believe that the british pound is undervalued right now.
The last time I actively did it was in the dot com boom 10+ years ago, easy money for a long time with the numerous IPOs; managed to escape in time before the market crashed.
Buy into good companies that have along term futures like Apple, Google and Coca Cola etc. If you hold long enough and the company keeps doing well the stock always follows.
