I was reading a post and someone mentioned the possibility of getting "flamed" and I got to wondering, what exactly would you have to do in order to set someone off? Found an interesting FAQ: "Getting flamed is when you receive responses back to something you've said or done on the Internet which has made others angry. These responses may be sarcastic, searing, or just plain nasty. There are those who are looking to flame someone, called flame warriors, and others who are looking to get flamed, flame bait. If two or more people start blasting each other it's a flame war. " Wow, and Warriors and Bait? I never knew. Have you ever been flamed?
No, I have never been flamed. Please use the opportunity to flame me in this thread!!! Give me your best shot.
never been flamed, never flamed anyone...well the jury might be out on that last one. mods do a good job curtailing the flaming in these parts
I've been Googling some more and found the following at http://www.accessmylibrary.com/coms2/summary_0286-28025723_ITM: Many of us who are active on the internet, giving our views on what is happening, are used to getting "flamed" (having hostile messages about us posted online). Just say something negative about Linux and see what gets put into Slashdot.org.But things have got a bit scarier over the past few months, as people start confusing the virtuality of the web with the realities of life. For example, a few months ago, a man was murdered in Japan for selling a virtual sword he had been lent during a Dungeons and Dragons-style multi-user gaming session. The original owner had reported the man for theft, but the authorities were not interested (nothing of any material value or substance had actually happened), so the guy took matters into his own hands. In the UK, a person had their throat slashed by someone who tracked them down after statements were made about the attacker in an online chatroom. No sleuthing was required - the victim had provided their real name and address in the public profile data... Wow, that's harsh. I feel fro those poor fellas, things sure got blown out of proportion. And by the way, if I have offended anyone here my sincere apologies, sorry sorry sorry. I did not mean to offend you, I did not mean what I said, what was I thinking?
Hence my apologies above, this thread is total silliness and I am sorry that I am wasting people's time with this drivel.
i don't think this thread is stupid, and i don't think Joe was referring to this thread. there're lots of threads WAAAY more stupid than this one ("How many times have you pooped today?"; "How many hours do you online a day?").
I agree, he wasn't calling out this thread and even if he was he was being cheeky, hence the and to the OP, hey! at least you wanted to open a thread with real dialogue!! with the intent of discussion.
