Looks like google has problems all the time, it's so unstable, when are they going to fix them?? Alot of things that happen around G make no sense. For example, my backlinks according to G had 2 links for exactely the same page of a site two days ago and in general the amount of backlinks change 2-3 times a day so do the indexed pages. Crazy! Uncontrolled!! CHAOS!!! About your blog, i am using text linkads since 1 year and noticed the same tendency, my average CTR is 10% now.

I was #1 for Adult MySpace for a long time then poof about 3 -4 months ago my site just dropped out of the rankings completely it must of been a penalty of some sort as there is no way that 500 sites suddenly decided to optimize for that KW in one day. It did not really bother that much because I was actually getting more traffic from G from other KW's. But a couple of weeks ago I re-optimized the page after doing some reading - apparently the 950 penalty is caused by over optimizing our page for a certain KW. Since then, for taht KW, my page has yo yo'ed from #2 back to 500+ back to 2 on different DC's. I only redid the page because I noticed that for another more competitive KW I was doing the same thing.

My site's google visitor amount turned the normal amount (it was 1/10 since 28th apr) about 5-6 hours ago. My main key phrases come back to the 1st page from the 4th and 5th pages. I am happy about that :) I wish luck to the other who have been suffering from the sudden drop of google visitors. I think that sudden serp drop was because of that pr update. Now that pr update settled down completely and google serp flactuations turned to normal.

Here are the basics from google guidelines:
Google may temporarily or permanently remove sites from its index and search results if it believes it is obligated to do so by law, if the sites do not meet Google's quality guidelines, or for other reasons, such as if the sites detract from users' ability to locate relevant information. We cannot comment on the individual reasons a page may be removed. However, certain actions such as cloaking, writing text in such a way that it can be seen by search engines but not by users, or setting up pages/links with the sole purpose of fooling search engines may result in removal from our index. Please read our Webmaster Guidelines for more information.

If your site is blocked from our index because it violates our quality guidelines, we may alert you about this using our webmaster tools. Simply log in to our webmaster tools, add your site URL, and verify site ownership. The Summary page of the Diagnostic tab provides information about the indexing of your site.

If you receive a notification that your site violates our quality guidelines, you can modify your site so that it meets these guidelines, then click the request reinclusion link to ask us to re-evaluate your site.

Well, if they temporarily remove our sites from search results it must be a warning to change something. Our sites do not meet Google's quality guidelines
On the other hand if you read all the guidelines, do you see anything was wrong with your site? No? I really wish google would explain more of its actions!!!
