If so, how much, what site, and for what reason? It seems all the sites or forums now have Paypal Donate buttons. Do you believe the owner really use the money for the development or maintainance of the site or they're just there to scam you? I place Donate buttons on my site because I really am low on finances right now and can't afford the maintenance fee. So is it okey for you this DBs?
Yes, once I donated like 5 bucks to a clan site back in the online gaming days a few years ago. I knew the owner personally and knew he had to pay for hosting and domain out of his pocket... The site had no ads or anything that made him money, so that was fair enough i think.
Someone used mine to donate $20 towards hosting costs, and thats what it was spent on. I sent them an email saying thanks and telling the person what I would use the money for (as requested, for hosting costs). And thats where the money went, into my hosting for next year. Guess they do have some use.
there are still owners trying to gain finance to fund their service providing. legit and small donation requester = donate worthy small and unknown = doubtful indeed big companies unless they have proof to fund actualy good deed = still slightly doubtful
I donated $50 to a website dedicated to save the rainforest in africa. It was part of a demonstration at the World Internet Summit to raise $100,000 over 3 days for a charity. Now they didn't reach 100,000 but they got about $40,000. But the point is, these people actually used to money for a good use. Maybe because they are famous on the Internet but we all saw the check being given to the organization.
Wow. It's good to know there are generous DP members here. Yeah, I guess most small-to-medium sites really need the money to pay for hosting and I want to add up to that list. lol. keep it up, guys. whatever the owner use it for, the important thing is you've given willingly. God looks on the heart not on the amount. I really admire generous/philantrophic people - like you.
Not used it yet but as i'm a little older and little wiser now I do sometimes feel the urge to give back. ALl dpends on the product/usefulness of the site/item.
When I see stuff that I really like, or link to and I think the author really did an awesome job, I donate some money if they have a donate button
