hey man, Number one, you really dont need $5K to travel china. Im living here at the moment, but when I was travelling, i did it all on about $1k and that was flying everywhere. I would advise flying to Beijing, see all the typical attractions there, a little touristy, but it gets you started. Then get a plane down to Xian and see all the touristy things there. Then it will get intersting, budget depending...get on a train or plane to one of these places, Dalian, Kunming or Guilin. You can really get out into the country side and see some amazing parts of china. And if you really want an experience, get a weeks visa and go to Lhasa in Tibet, see the mountains and the most untouched part of "China" (if you want call it china). Dont worry about the money so much, you can stay in youth hostels from $4 a night and train prices are very cheap. My advise would be not to book anything in advanced, just get your return ticket to and from Beijing and work around that! Its the only way
You don't know how badly I want to go China now!!! Dam that must be fun. If I didn't have a daughter to care of I would be on my way right now…
we should have a webmasters meet in china! then you can call it a business trip. it seems like lots of people want to go to china for a holiday, i think it could work
