Have You Been Ripped Off By Registerfly? Read This

I routinely register large volumes of domains with registerfly, averaging around 100 or so a week. A number of patterns have developed. And after doing a search on the net and other forums, it appears that my problems with Registerfly are not unique.

    Patterns include:

    1) If you process a bulk order for domains, the system will allow you to add all of the domains to your shopping cart. You are then billed for all of the domains. However, usually, anywhere from 1 and sometimes a dozen or more domains do not successfully register.
The problem, Registerfly's system does not automatically process a refund. First, you have to catch the overbilling. Next, you have to submit a trouble ticket. And finally, even if you used a credit card for the purchase, Registerfly will credit your Registerfly account. (Obviously, to keep their refund/chargeback percentages low with the charge card companies).

    2) Another bait and switch technique they use is to advertise various sales as "LIVE". But when you try to use the sale, the offer is refused, and the domains are charged out at full price.

Both of these practices are illegal, and should be stopped. But people like you and me complaining on a forum isn't going to do the trick. Instead, complaints must be registered with the proper authorities. Here's the contact url's for complaints:

    ICANN - http://reports.internic.net/cgi/registrars/problem-report.cgi

    NEW JERSEY ATTORNEY GENERALS OFFICE
    (Registerfly's state of operation)
    http://www.state.nj.us/lps/ca/ocp/ocpform.htm

    Registerfly's Contact Information
    RegisterFly.com, inc.
    623 Eagle Rock Avenue
    Suite #7
    West Orange, NJ 07052
    1.973.404.8430

    BILLING COMPLAINT

A company like Registerfly must keep refunds/chargebacks below a certain rate, or risk losing their merchant charge accounts. An option is to call your charge company and complain about over billings.

There are numerous other serious issues with the Registerfly system. Such as inability to access transferred domains. Incorrect renewal dates, and so on. But, the agencies above will not be able to assist with these type of problems.

It's time to make Registerfly clean up their act!

Thanks for keeping this thread alive.

NOTE: If you have any domain names with registerfly and you initiate a charge-back because of their incompetence, they will take your domain names away and extort a large fee out of you if you want them back. So if you do any charge-backs, make sure you transfer ALL of your domain names elsewhere before you initiate a charge-back. Any other service you have with them will most likely be shut-off too.

The best tactic is to make sure as many people as possible are aware of RegisterFly's incompetence and shady practices so that they can make an informed decision on which registrar to use. Over time RegisterFly's business will decline to the point that they will either change their ways or go out of business.

I have 8 domains with Registerfly. I have no such problems. I never got overcharged or anything. Everything is smooth. I mean they are upgrading so it's got a few bugs but nothing like you guys mentioned. DNS and everything is smooth.

But godaddy and everyone else has complaints also. Nobody's perfect.

I'm trying 1an1 also right now and it's pretty smooth so far. They also have plenty of complaints. But not from me so far.

So I don't go by reviews. I like RF and have sinse December 2003. And I'll stick with them.

    Thanks,
    ivnj

LOL, I just got an email response, to bad it wasn't from a person.

This place is a joke. Domain still is not working BTW, even after spending hours on the phone, sending countless emails, paying for the renewal on December 25th, getting hung up on and lied to by their support staff. Real nice company let me tell you, I'm glad none of my hundreds of domains are hosted with them, nor will they ever be.

I almost believe that, for 'support'
Every time I've tried has been over an hour and 1 whopping time I got through.

You must have gotten EXTREMELY lucky.

They have been a little busy lately. But I just got through on their live chat thing. A "Jim Jones" was very helpful. I couldn't disable protectfly. Their site is a little buggy. So he did it for me. I just told him the problem. Gave my user name and domain name. And he disabled it for me. No being rude or anything. No charge. He just did what I asked. So very helpful.

    Thanks,
    ivnj

If I did work for them then that would be spamming and I 'd get banned. And then who would I ask for such lovely advice. So no I don't work for them. It took a bit longer than usual cuz of the problems their site has but eventually I got through.

    Thanks,

ivnj, its impossible to get hold of them via live chat or via phone, I waited 2 hours last night, and no response. Tickets get automatically closed, they are complete rip offs are UNABLE TO RENEW DOMAIN NAMES. That right, domain names are expiring and you can do nothing about it..... they are crooks.

I waited on live support for 6 hours, nothing....
