What are we supposed to do when someone doesn't pay and doesn't respond to emails? Is there someone to report them to, or just give them a negative iTrader? Does that make any difference?
negative feedback makes little difference, especially in getting your money back there are several recourses but they all depend on a lot of things Did you have a contract? What country are YOU in? what country are THEY in? what evidence do you have of the agreement (im's, emails etc) Did you get ANY money from them at all? This again, is another example of how escrow would have helped one other person here on DP assure they got what they were supposed to.
An escrow system is a good idea. Not just for programming but also for the sale of websites and other transactions. There are to many scammers on this forum lately.
wow - its pretty amazing to me how big this thread got, and how many posts in just 4 days we got 44 vots so far 75% of DP buyers and programmers (who voted) have been BURNED by a money issue in a transaction. so i see a definite need for us to have an escrow system. I am going to start working on it, anyone interested in being involved in the "review" panel i estimate 90% of the transactions will be successful...but the 10% will be a dispute where the buyer says the programmer didnt deliver what was promised...or the programmer feels they are done and should be paid. In those instances, i think a "review panel" can take a look at it and make a decision..People experienced as buyers and sellers. this way, a fair decision can be made. maybe even a nominal "arbitration fee"....something like 10 or 20 dollars, from both parties. this stops people doing it just because or "on principle" the winner gets refunded the fee, the loser does not (it goes to pay for the time of the arbitration panel)
so its been over a year ago I brought this up...looks like it is finally happening...take the poll so we can see some current trends!
