Well, This is the second time I haven't got paid...

Anyone else had these kind of experience? Tell me what can be done to prevent them from cheating us?

Yes, I have had it happen to me quite a bit. I don't think anything can be done abuot it because you can't leave iTrader in the freebies section, but wwe're supposed to post free offers for $$ there. If anyone does know what could be done, I would like to know also.

The same thing has happened to me a while ago with a major project. Luckily the person for whom I worked did not get to post my project. Now I am trying to sell it to another person in hope that I will receive the money I deserve for my work. More experienced people have adviced me not to send him my work before I get payd. Some even suggested making a contract between the two parts.
The truth is...you should not trust people so much any more and learn from your mistakes.

Build your reputation up and you can then ask for at least 50% payment upfront so that your only dealing with serious people..

I tend to find this works for me and the only times I've had a problem or two is when I was new and did posting jobs.

I know my iTrader number is low, but I'm afraid to inquire about jobs from people that have really low iTraders. Maybe, one way to protect yourself is to make sure they have a good reputation before doing any work and yes, if they don't ask for half upfront.

I got scammed quite a few times , actually someone scammed me for 250$ , a week of work . Be carefull all DP freelancers , ask for your payment upfront if possible if not just check the persoan`s Itrader that`s the most you can do..

As of right now I have a zero in my iTrader but I've landed a couple of clients from here who have sought me out based on the posts I've made here. Great contacts and fast paying clients all of them. While I can't say I know of a way to protect yourself from not being paid, I've let everyone know that I expect a certain percentage of the project paid up front and once I receive it, I begin work right away.

Like I said, I haven't had the problem of not being paid but I also market myself in other places than DP. I like to write on a variety of topics and I think the best way to do that is to put yourself out there in as many places as possible.

I have only had one problem from here. Everyone has paid except for one person who was paying and then decided after a time not to pay. I recently did an article about it on article scammers blog.
