Have two sites that need marketting help, what should I do?

I currently own two sites that, to be completely honest, are tanking on me. I've been trying my hardest to get them back on the right track but with little to no success. I was hoping someone here could start pointing me in the right direction for each of them.

The first site is a MySpace Icon site, at the peak of its traffic I was receiving 1500+ visits daily. Recently it's dropped, drastically, to 400 daily. I, as recently as yesterday, signed up for the google webmaster site allowing me to submit sitemaps, verify the site and check what links are coming into my sites. I feel like that was a good step for this site, I have many links coming in from MySpace as well. (each icon links back to my site). I've tried link exchanges but still don't have many of them. Other than that, I'm not sure what I should do. Where my focus should be or how to go about becoming a site that can receive thousands of visits daily. I hope to get my site up to at least 5,000 daily. I know this is no easy task and I'm willing to do the work, I just don't know what the work is that needs to be done.

My other site is brand new, I developed one of the free gift sites that you must sign up and complete an offer, then after getting a certain number of friends to complete the offer as well you receive a free gift of your choice. Wether it be iPods, Giftcards or something else. This site I've found extremely difficult to advertise, this is both because most people don't believe that these sites are legitimate the other I'm not sure what good keywords for such a site would be. I've done the same things for this site as the one I listed above.

If anyone has ANY tips or suggestions on ways to go about getting the word out, or beating the competition please let me know.

ANY tips at all are welcome. My adsense revenue has almost completely disappeared with the drop in traffic and I would love to get it back to where it was if not better.

    Thanks for any help.

The main success of a business is its marketing.Thatz why most of the companies pay huge amount for marketing. This is the same case in internet business.

ur first site was getting 1.5k traffic per day and it stopped suddenly ?
what was the source of that traffic ?

I highly recommend SEO for continuous traffic.

For your MySpace icon site, when you release an icon, does it bear your site URL? Also, do you provide copy and paste function for the use of your icons? Direct copy and paste of the code will give you the opportunity to incorporate your link into the icon.

Also, do you have friends using MySpace? If there are, try to prompt them to use your icons to help you advertise for free.

Well, part of the drop I'm sure was the effects of college, I simply had no time to deal with the site and maintain it. Now that vacation has begun, I am trying to get it back on track.

Most of the hits were coming from other members myspace websites.

Is there a good place you know of for a description of where to begin with SEO? I know practically nothing about it and would love to get started on it.

    wayne,
My Icons I have as an image link to my site, I do not have a text link incorporated into it however. Do you believe that would help?

If you're looking for more visitors....

    -Autosurf
-Post on forums (with link in sig)
    -submit to directories
-learn about creating click magnet banners (metaphorically)
-Make others know you do a good job and know how to run a business.

---That's theb est I can do hopefully it helps---

I'm currently the 11th position in a google search for a term i would really love to be number one or AT LEAST on the first page. When being this close for a specific keyword are their any steps to go about to move up positions for that specific keyword?

For the freebies site, there are some directories where you can post

What directories might those be? And does anyone have any suggestions about the other comment with moving up from position 11? Even just getting up one to page 1 would be great.

To be honest, I think your first website may be going downhill due to the shift away from Myspace by it's target market. I briefly ran a MySpace website and have had success with marketing the service directly to the users on MySpace.

You'd also probably want to take a step back, and determine what has changed since you were receiving your traffic peak. Sometimes re-evaluation can be the most powerful tool.

Well, to be completely honest, I realize the shift away from MySpace would be a great effect to my site. But, the biggest change I've made was, I had previously owned a layout site, comment site, html site and a few others all of which were geared toward myspace and linked to each other. I recently put them all into one and made each domain name of the others redirect to the one i decided to keep. Since that change I've lost many people.
