Have Prizes Need Competition Ideas?

I've got at least $500 worth of gadgets that various companies have given me to review. What I'd like to do is run a contest on my blog to give all the gadgets away to one lucky reader, so I'm after suggestions on what sort of contest to run.

The aim of the contest is create more interaction between readers and the site, publicity that may attract new readers and if possible to gain reader created content.

So far the only ideas I have are to ask for gadget review submissions or photos of the site name. Does anybody else have any other ideas, thanks for reading and think.

I'm not too sure about the contests. But I think it might be better to split up the gadgets so theres more that one winner.

Thanks for the feedback Endless. I split the prizes last time and ended up with $200 worth of postage bills so I was trying to learn from that :).

As long as you have big prizes, people will come. Try and create something that will encourage users to refer other people to the forum, and try to incorporate that into your contest.

When I opened up Profit Geek, we gave away prizes every day for a month, and then at the end of the month gave away $1,000 in cash.

Thanks SUP3RNOVA. The main prizes are a $300 Wicked Laser and a 2GB Titanium Cruzer USB stick and I think 10 or so lower value gadgets.

The previous contest I did involved getting more forum members but I think I over complicated the rules some what, this time I'm more interested in just promoting the site ion general.

Nice forum you have over there with Profit Geek, I like it.

I know its more expensive but its better to have 10 winners of 10 prizes, then 1 winner of 1 big prize. 10 winners = better odds for your viewers.

I've always liked the simple raffle. Just have people fill out an entry form, perhaps allow them to enter more than once, such as once a day. This'll keep them coming back.

You could do something like, submit a picture or video of you and your favorite gadget in action, some sort of voting would ensue. It would get those who submit involved as well as those who have not through voting.

Yeah, create a poll and have all who entered into the contest be in the poll then everyone votes. Do you need a tag line or something for you site? Have them think of one then make a poll to pick the winner.

Did you decide on anything Dct?

If you haven't, I suggest a short essay, on how parents or other family members are technophobic, and just how much the gadgets would help their lives.

    Funniest stories win?

In the end I went for a gadget review raffle. Just did the draw yesterday and I now got to post a big box to Sweden.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I've got plenty of ideas now for my next lot of contests.
