Have I bitten off more than I can handle

    Hi,

I've been trying to get my site ranked in Google for a while now, but appear to be getting nowhere. The site is over a year old.

I've been getting links, adding content, optimizing (I hope) my site, but the best I've been in Google is around 700, but most of the time I'm nowhere.

The keyword phrase I'm focussing on is 'Orlando Villas'. This doesn't seem too competitive.

What do you guys suggest, just carry on getting links? Am I underestimating how many I need?

    Advice appreciated.

You maybe penalized for using Gotlinks. (maybe) :)

Also you may want to change some of your anchor text to just "orlando villas" on your incoming links if that is the keyword you want to nail.

Which one are you trying to rank "Orlando Villas" for? The one in your sig with that text is just a holding / redirect page. The other one uses the text "Florida Vacation Rentals" ... so which is it? And are both domains that old? If they are under 12 or even 18 months, they may still have a new site penalty. That is a competitive phrase.. not horrible, but not easy either.

Ya, it's more then likely GotLinks that "gots" you in trouble. :) Stay away from them, if you use a backlink checker, you can definitely see a pattern.

The one with Florida Vacation Rentals... I use Orlando Villas mostly, but mix it up a little sometimes. The domain was registered April 2004

I only used them for one month. My links don't appear on any of those pages.

for orlando villas you will be waiting a really long time for google

but overall its not that competitive term

I have couple vacation rental sites, they took a long time and a ton of links to rank, google jsut kicked out one of them, which always makes me happy

    Thanks for the response...

Are you saying google "penalises" certain phrases longer than others?

The amount of time it takes to rank well for a phrase is inversely proportional to the commerical value of said phrase.
