Have HostGator 600gb plan....will they really let me use that much?

Discussion in 'Site & Server Administration' started by miktor, Mar 18, 2008.

I recently purchased HostGator hosting with the 600gb plan

I plan on filling up a good 100gb of it with media...will they say something?
I read the HostGator TOS and I am not violating any of the rules they have.

Will they be upset if I use the account for backup purposes?

If it's for backup (IE: you're not using the bandwidth for user to download them) i suppose it'll be ok. But if you create apage for users to download that, i think you'll get a huge warn soon.

If they allow you to use 600gb and your only using 100gb, then whats the problem?

Yes they will. Don't fall for those bloated shared hosting packages. Before you actually start reaching the limits you'll be warned.

    simply yes!

Since you will be using it for file storage that breaks there tos
you will propbley go over the inode limit
and even then they will just say your usiing too much resource and kick you off, if your looking for a backup solution check my sig we offer offsite backups on multi raid array servers

So are you saying your planning on using the majority of the space just for storage that won't be accessed very often?

    The answer is simple, no.
You won't be able to use that much, because you simply can't without breaking their TOS. All that space and bandwidth is just a marketing tactic. Sort of like the estimated MPG from the EPA on automobiles.

i read the TOS completely and i am not breaking any rules

i am not hosting warez or anything. it is not JUST a backup as a few people have access to the files.

i also have a few other domains on the account

When you store too many files, regardless if it's within the plan limits they give you, you will be breaking their TOS for abuse since you'll have to utilize more disk I/O and CPU usage.

I don't think that 'backups' are allowed in the TOS, don't all files have to be publicly accessible and linked to, and I think there's a cap on having too many 'media' files?
