Not sure if this the right forum or not, but here goes... I have an online application that I think can be useful to many web masters. I plan on having the tool be free, and use Adsense for income. The question is, should I register a new domain with the name of the tool in the domain name, or should I use a subdirectory of an existing domain I have with a Pagerank of 5? Which is better in the long run? The existing domain in question has content related to my tool, but I don't want to mix in my tool with my other content - instead I was thinking I could add the tool in a subdirectory of the existing domain.
I would keep your tool on your current domain. It will be much easier to rank in the search engine and therefore be found
Register the domain anyway and forward it to your other site. (its only like $7 anyway) This way, if your tool gets really popular, you can give it its own domain later.
By doing both above, you dont have to worry about your domain name being taken for your software. And you can even develop the information about your software on the software domain name. Pointing to your main domain. This way you can rank well initially and build your other domain. Marc
One Strategy would be to Build a very targeted Domain name and then Advertise heavily on your own Site. Try to make it look like a different company. You may gain a lot in long run. Yes It would be little bit risky in short run. But you have all the option in future open.
