Have a question about Geotargetting and Niche Relevance

First off, Lets say if I was seoing a website about solar panels and I wanted to target it to the people of San Fransisco. I would use a long tail keyword like "solar panel San Fransisco" right?

Second, what exactly is geotargetting and what does it mean. I'm doing research on it right now but I'm assuming it means that when a person from another city or specific location performs a search on google from that location, the search results will tailor to fit the city. Is that how it works?

    Thanks everyone

Yes, a long tailed keyword like that would be effective. Much more so than "click here" haha. Second, geotargetting is a method of determining the geolocation of a site visitor and serving appropriate ads. For example, if someone from iraq is googling "solar panels", adsense on the side of google isn't going to serve them small business solar panel ads from the US. If there's a solar panel distributor in iraq however, then their ad would be PERFECT there. Google has this all worked out by IP address and it's very effective.

I see.. so for geotargetting, the organic results would do the same as the Iraq example you mentioned?

people will find your site based on what they search for. not everyone in SF would search solar panel San Fransisco and majority will end up searching for just solar panel.

geo targetting is targetting a specific geography. for example, US, Canada, UK, etc

You should put your address in footer and submit to google maps. This way your site can come in local results when someone in SFO is searching for solar panels.

Hmm, you could also use the keyword "San Francisco solar panel" for better results in searching on Google or any search engine...

Here's what I understand about geotargeting. Geo-targeting is the way you link build through targeting a specific country, for example I was to optimize my site in France, all I need to do is to make my site seen majorly in France by submiting ads, joining forums specifically in France, online groups etc. as long as you focus on France based websites... By doing this, uhhm lets say Google, Google's data center in France could index you more and will be shown more on Google.fr... Geotargeting caters specifically on the country that your focusing at...
