My dog attacked me tonight for no reason. It was very scary. Has this ever happened to you?

get over to dogweb.co.uk for advice.

you don't want that happening again!!!

I'd doubt it's for no reason - just a reason you don't understand. Are you OK? What kind of dog?

Very good point. I grew up in a house where pit-bulls were being breed. I had no fear of those dogs, it was the stupid-frilly things that were spoiled that concerned me (typically Chihuahuas). If you treat a dog like a human, they will see you as an equal, and that means they will battle you/ or a family member (biting, mauling, etc) for supremacy.

As for pets attacking me, none. Except I reached in a fish tank to rearrange decoration, and my gold fish started nipping at me. That count? ;)

Sorry to hear about your doggy.

    later,

    tom

My clownfish attacks my hand every time I put it in the tank. Maybe I should take him to obedience school.

    i dont have a pet....

i used to have a cat ages ago but it never attacked me....

i wonder why it happened to others....i mean, people takes good care of 'em and at the end of the day they will attack their owners.....
maybe all pets have their bad sides no matter how good they are...even if they are well trained.

I had a parakeet once that took a good chunk of my nose. Hurt like hell. I currently have a cockatiel that will bite when she gets excited over something: a sock or a pair of underwear. Her male counterpart will bite when he's randy but otherwise is a sweetheart.

I have a toy fox terrier. He is a small dog, but very strong. I am okay, my wife was able to grab his leash and put him in a room. He got set off by fireworks being set off by neighbors. It was very scary. He looked like he wanted to kill me.

Just a tip, you might need to see a trained person about the dog. The original incident was most likely an accident, but because you never re-asserted your dominance. The dog might see you as an equal or an inferior. Which could result in more 'accidents'.

I'm just saying... if a pet dog growled at me, I instantly act to show my dominant position. Don't hurt your doggie, just show him who's boss.

P.S. No of this stuff works with the wifey. Not at all. :(

yes there have been times but it was mostly by accidents. like we annoy him very much during his nap time, or wake him up in themiddle of his dreams (yes you can tell he's dreaming) or when he's hurt and he's grumpy about it...wouldnt like anyone to touch him. its like a common thing

Good Tip! If he attacks again hold his face and repeat NO" N0" with a firm voice also if he keeps trying it again you can put him on medication to calm him down but you would have to take him to the vet for that. Always assert yourself as the primary chief they are pack dogs and will always look for a leader to lead them. But on the downside if he doesn't stop you will have to put him down--to dangerous to have a bitting dog around!

A tip--have a can of pennies around if he's bad shake the can at him to stop the bad behavior .
