In the past couple of weeks I've put in two 30-hour days at work. My average work day is around 12-13 hours, and 20-hour days are not unusual. A few days ago I noticed a nasty taste in my mouth and a gungy tongue. I figured it was just too much sugar, too much smoking and a dry mouth, so I brushed my teeth, cleaned my tongue and went to bed. When I woke up I couldn't swallow without vomiting, and my mouth was absolutely covered in yellow gunge. So, took a look at the Internet and came to the conclusion that I had oral thrush - not pleasant. I went to the pharmacy to get an anti-fungal gel and forced myself to choke down a couple of probiotic yoghurts to restore the 'good' bateria in my mouth. This didn't seem to work. By last night my throat closed up and I had to go to the emergency room. The doc diagnosed oral thrush and a secondary opportunistic bacterial infection that had inflamed my throat. He gave me some antibiotics and a prescription for Fluconazole, a hardcore anti-fungal. The infections I've got, according to my doctor, are usually only this aggressive in people with compromised immune sytems - i.e HIV and cancer patients. Because of all this I haven't been able to eat or drink for over two days, I've been puking bile every hour or so and I'm gagging every time I swallow. I can't sleep because my mouth keeps filling up with saliva, and the drugs have given me flu-like symptoms. Sorry about the nasty descriptions. I did warn you, though, didn't I? So. Has anyone else found their work affecting their health? What did you get?
Thanks, zenith. I'm fine as long as I don't try to swallow I can't wait to get better. I'm dreaming of bacon and eggs. A few slices of fried bread, maybe a sausage or two. Right now I can't even swallow water
work does affect, but i been affected with my eyes more then anything else, constantly working on the pc aint good.
Do you take regular breaks from looking at the monitor? I wear contact lenses, and my eyes get very dry after a few hours staring at the screen. Usually, taking a five minute break and splashing a little water on my face refreshes them.
