Do you live in a country where there have been large investments by US corporations? What has the impact been? Would you say it has been positive and helped the general population?
I am from China,in my country we received a lot investments from the USA,but it is hard to say that the investment is positive or not.on the one hand, they are creating new jobs, helping to grow GDP,etc,on the other hand, some of the investments are not kind, and they are leading the economy inflatable.Too many investments from overseas flowing into the stock market & real estate industry, too many bubbles out there,if the government can not control the stock & real estate market, those unkind investments will strike chinese economy down.Just like Japan got decades ago.
A lot. I think around 10% of FDI in India is from the US. Positive for sure. Lots of jobs have been created and overall growth rate has improved because of it.
I only had the chance to visit Mainland China once. I learned a lot from that visit. I saw some areas that were developed very quickly to try and get more foreign investment. I also saw some strange things on the outskirts of ShangHai. I still don't have a full understanding of the "special economic districts" that they have.
Direct and indirect investments helped in generating new job opportunities. We saw a rapid growth in economy. New Jobs = Better Buying Capacity = Better living standards.
Has an investment helped your country? I nominate this for stupidest question of the day. Foreign investments in the US help the US economy. Investments always help countries because they spur economic development.
Not always. Misdirect investments can destroy local business owners. India has limited FDI in sectors like retail and stock broking, because Indian businesses in these sectors are still not big enough to compete with the bigger players from the western countries. Investments also have other negative effects like over-strengthening a country's currency; causing inflation etc. India is a net importer and still the INR is getting stronger. This is because of the large capital flows that are coming into India. The stronger rupee is creating a lot of problems for Indian exporters and the central bank is thinking about putting a cap on foreign investments in certain sectors. The central bank has already disallowed fresh foreign investments in Indian real estate sector to prevent a pricing bubble in real estate.
Fair enough. I should have said "in the long run." For the local retailers and businesses, all outside competition is normally destructive. But in the end, it should increase efficiency in the business operations of all the business, especially the local ones who are able to step up and compete.
Ah yes we have several large U.S. companies here such as Google, Yahoo, Dell etc due to the tax breaks they receive. On a more negative investment, they funded paramilitaries to go fight the British with guns and bombs.
Ha when I just read it I thought WTF. It did sound as if I was saying that Google etc was responsible.
