Has this ever been done?

I'm a little curious on this. Has anyone starting or running website which was going to be a big undertaking, sold something like private stocks to investors and let the investor make a return on their money? If so could you point me in the direction?

If not would that be something of interest to anyone? I know it sounds like an HYIP but if it's actually paid back from the income made from the site(s) that would be more legitament. Yeah/No?

The dot com bubble burst of 2002 is still very much fresh in majority of the minds.....Hence it would be tough to convince people...even if your proposal is damn solid.

Note: I have been involved with small start up businesses for over 25 years. In the course of my career, I have been involved with boot-strapping, VC's (Vulture Capitalists), Angel investors and more. The only start up businesses that get significant funding from professional investors (i.e., VC's or Angels) are those headed by businesspeople who have a long track record of success in previous businesses. If that is not the case for you, you would be best seeking investment money from FAF (Family and Friends) as they are the most likely to know, trust and believe in you and your concept.

I do this kind of thing before but i'm in investor shoes.
I start up like this, one person approach me and tell me their plan and they have get my attention.
They have sent me all those detailed document and explain to me how their website is gonna earn and how much is the earning percentage.
After my financial planner have evaluate it and tell me its worth of investing, then i go ahead by injecting $10k as one of their primary stack holder that can vote on their meeting.
