First, sorry for silly question. I try to choose domain for my site. I like much devtheweb.net, but I worry that it's .NET (not .COM, it's already busy). So, my question is: Should I choose devtheweb.net or I'd better find longer domain, but .COM? Really, Thanks a lot for your answers
I checked my bookmarks but didn't see a lot of .net domains in it. It is true that .com is more favorable than .net, however, what makes a domain visit-worthy is not its ending, it is its content.
Obviously, .com is the most preferred but, I think if ur site was really good, people will visit it no matter what the tld.
from my experience i think .com .net .org domains are the best. They are better than .country domains or .name .info or other endings. I personally do not judge a website for it's extension, i judge it for it's content. That is what most people judge it after. Most internet browsers don`t even know the difference between extensions, and don`t really care what the domain name is, as long as it meets they wishes (content they search for). Search engines make the difference between extensions if i`m not wrong.
If you plan on buying a domain just for the purpose of flipping it for a profit, a .com TLD is definitely more attractive. However, if you want to buy a domain for the purpose of building a site that you will keep, I don't think there is a problem with .net TLD's at all. I have quite a few .net sites and they all rank well and get traffic. As far as SEO goes, I don't think the TLD has much of an impact (as long as it's .com, .net, or .org as miniclipz pointed out). If you know how to properly optimize your site, you will rank well regardless of the TLD you use.
The first priority is always a .com, but if there are no space for .com for exact name, you can choose .net. I found a lot of .net website with serious business..
I agree with the above. Although .com is the most popular (and therefore probably easiest to remember), there is barely a difference between .com and .net, and in fact some domains actually sound better with .net at the end.
In many cases, .net is the new .com I would never use a .net unless it were an exact keyword (ProductName.net rather than NameIinvented.net), otherwise you will run into issues with the .com holder.
