because my mate got a email from a company and he got a vps with them and got a email saying lxadmin have shut down
It hasn't been decided yet, though, as it was on a sole ownership of a single person, there is a high possibility of getting this discontinued, you may check this thread for updates: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=867506
If you have a very secure password, then is the exploit a problem? How? Why? EDIT: This doesn't look too bad... "Multiple Security issues have been discovered in hyperVM and Kloxo, and we have fixed all the remotely exploitable ones, and also the ones that can be exploited via the web interface. Please update hyperVM/Kloxo to the latest. There are some vulnerabilities in Kloxo that can be exploited by a user who has shell access to the system, and so it is recommended that you give out shell access only to 100% safe users..." -source
so, when you say Lxadmin.. does that mean LXlabs is shutting down or just lxadmin? sorry just wanna make sure
i don't blame the host for shutting it down temporarily - I'm sure it'll be back up as soon as the exploit is fixed.
I agree with Bohra ... he was the only one ... there is another guy on lxforums who said he is like a close friend with the owner ... and probably (fingers crossed) lets hope that he finds a good company which he can sell hypervm/lxadmin to ... VPS providers will definately increase vps prices if they decide to go to plan B and switch to virtuozzo or something .... Any one knows of any other GOOD and relatively cheap priced VPS panel? =]
Theirs a couple of hypervm alternatives(which I personally think some of them are better) GPLHost - http://www.gplhost.com/software-dtc-xen.html VTONF - http://www.vtonf.com/ GREAT SolusVM - http://www.solusvm.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2 (BETA not public)
They have no 'shutdown', but it doesn't look like they will continue for too long considering how many security holes it has, etc, and now the owner is dead... I think the only way it could survive would be if it went opensource.
FYI: The source code is encrypted, and no one at lxForums knows, yet, if any living person has access to the code.
not exactly...the sole owner hung himself, and has passed away. Nobody can claim that it was because of the recent exploits.
lxadmin has some problems I see. One of our client hacked because of lxadmin. So you have to be sure for using lxadmin.
Didn't Rus point his finger at Hyper-VM? http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/06/10/vaserv_follow_up/ Anywho back to subject, I haven't gotten any information that lxadmin is shut down. Any can confirm what is posted?
The owner killed himself, and the source of the progrma is unknown, and it might shut down, hopefully not.
