Has Google Stop Giving Importance to Directories Yes indeed this is what i was told by few of the webmaster that i know. They Said google is currently giving importance to well known directories only.
Its not about well known directories, Its all about quality of directory where you are doing submission of your site. So, do submission into quality directories.
Google is simply fooling us by these kind of things .This is just similar to report paid links tool in Google.
Your friends are absolutely right. Google is filtering out many links and only counting quality directories. Go and check updated backlinks of other sites and it would show which links are being counted and which are not. Most free directory links are being discounted -- thats what I saw when I checked my sites.
One thing I noticed is lots of pages are showing in supplimental index. Could be the fact, lot of same links are submitted to all free directories. So, may be we need to create paid directories. Not sure what is going on supplimental results are bothering me.
Free directories are out. Quality paid ones are in. Thats why in the webmaster guidlines they tell you to submit to quality paid directories like yahoo etc
They said currently it is of no use making new directories. The importance has only been given to establish dir's
Actually check here http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=420793 Google is going to remove the supplemental tag .that is they are going to conceal it from us. Not at all. It is not possible for every one to submit to a paid directory like Yahoo. They (Google)are simply fooling us by making these kind of statements. They have no means to detect which is a free directory and which is a paid one.
Here we go again folks should spend more time developing features and functionality on their Directories, than noting what G may/or may not be doing re this or re that All directory owners will keep an eye on all aspects/points or whatever that might be relevant to Directories But these issues are such a minor part of the progressive Directory Market, hence they do not warrant or justify a great deal of attention OP Great link bait for your Thread
Exactly Pete -we should concentrate more on developing our directories than have arguments here--which is good and which is bad. One thing though -- Quality lasts forever-
Too many people here make overreactionary comments based on what they have read, and not by doing their own tests. I recently targeted a new search term for one of my sites, using just a few free directories. Managed to get on the first page of google quite easily. My other rankings have held firm, with many terms gained through free directories only. I do also use paid directories, many of them have average PR. There are many people here with everything to gain by constantly telling you that free and lesser known paid directories are no good. As far as I'm concerned, a strategy of submitting to both free and paid directories is still affective.
Please read again. Or if you want to read more -- I can provide you with proofs. I was a directory submitter --many months back. I used to submit to only PR5 + FREE directories. But the April update brought a huge change in my list. Most of those free directories lost 1/2 notch of their PRs and some of them have become PR0. Some even got de-indexed. But quality directories -- Free or Paid will always remain quality. If you want to see proofs --please feel free to PM me--and I'll oblize.
Actually DMOZ is not useless, its majority of the editors that are. The fact is there is good, better and best but some just strive hard for the best and some strive for good and some strive to be better. All are good but there is a fine line of being a quality. No pun intended. Just an opinion.
So in other words what you are saying is that if you are not established you will never be established! If this is the case then there is no need for Google to crawl the web anymore. It appears that too much emphasis and laid on what Google will and won't do to directories and we all keep a watchful eye because it is in our interests to do so. However, we all need to know where to draw the line on emphasising!
It depends upon the backlinks of a site. I think the best free directories are that are above or equal to PR6. Dmoz does n't give you quality but it gives you some what relevant results But now it's losing it's sheen as the editors are not updating it frequently
I really don't think Google's algorithm discriminates between directories and other types of sites. Just as all sites are not equal for Google, all directories are also not equal. If you get a link from a directory that is better optimized, the link is more valuable.
