Has Google Punished me?

    Hi

Since early jan we have been doing lots of seo on our site. We have been increasing on some keywords from page 5 to top of page 2, and from page 18 to around page 6. We are promoting about 4 keywords.

    So far we have:

    1. created loads of high quality, unique articles, submitted them, with link back to our site.
    2. comented on blogs (sometimes have used the "name" as our keyword such as "used cars" - not sure if this is bad or not
    3. done on page seo, good title tags etc....no keyword stuffing etc...

However, I have checked today and we have gone right back to where we were before we started seo.....

Do you think Google has punished me? I cant see why they should, as we have been creating quality content etc...This really annoys me, as lots of high performing websites get to the top just by paid links.....I wonder if this is a flaw in Google as it is not really fair!

    Any help would be good...

    @peugeot78

Don't get frustrated it does happens at times. I guess that recent drop in your ranks is probably due to the recent change in the google algorithm which has affected lots of websites. Just keep on doing those good things which you are doing from the beginning. May be with the next PR update you may come back again. Who knows right :)

But remember its just not with your case many popular blogs are having this effect

So what shall I do? Shall I vary my keywords more? Deep link maybe? avoid keyword based "names" on blogs?

i would say work on some more link building work. yes what all you specified above. Once you get those quality links with the relevant anchor text you will gain your rankings back. Also target low volume keywords too. May be that also helps in gain in your traffic

I would not worry to much about your PR it's the traffic to your site that's the most important thing, if your traffic has dropped off then start to worry slightly. Google have been changing their algorthm so try adding your sites to a few good directories but don't over do it, as your sites are aimed at the uk market then go for uk directories. this might interest you http://webupon.com/search-engines/recent-algorithm-changes-will-your-google-page-rank-decrease/

Hi - when you say target low volume keywords, are you meaning writing articles "about" low volume keywords, as in writing artilces which have a keyword density of 4-6% of a specific low volume keyword. Also by having the low volume keyword as the title of the article will this also be considered focusing on low volume keywords? I could write articles on something random, but realted to cars like "servicing and pollen filters in cars"....

i mean would writing an article about a low volume keyword, lets say "pollen filters in used cars" and in the author stuff at the end I put a link to my site to point/deep link to car service and filters section, and the article was written, optimised for this low competitive term, would this count as a "low volume keyword link"...?

I see you haven't mentioned...social bookmarking, RSS feed submission, Twitter updates,
press releases, video syndication or viral report distribution. A combination or all of these
may be want you need to push you over the top.

If you are not doing so already, you may want to consider posting articles to your own
site first and get them indexed prior to submitting anywhere else.

You have to check how many backlinks your competitors have. Maybe your're in a competitive niche and are not building enough backlinks or maybe you are just going through the "Google Dance". Anyway just keep building quality links and check your competition.

Yes, you should keep building links naturally which are in white hat, one day your site would rank good, but don't try to use any black hat technique..

Its quite normal. I have experienced this for lot of my sites. You will get a higher ranking again after a week or so. This time you will get a better ranking. This will happen several occasions until you get a stable ranking.

I say continue with what you were already doing, generating links, articles, etc etc. I believe its just the change in googles algorithm. Everything should be back to normal soon. Goodluck

I think strange things are going on with Google at the moment. My Adsense has taken a huge dive after 6 years of huge income.. I am hoping it's temporary.. sit tight..
